Title: What will be the impact of Halloween landing in the Middle East?
Post by: Unorthodox on July 06, 2016, 03:13:14 PM
Most likely the first haunted house in the middle east.  Reports I've seen so far indicate they locals love American horror, but have no experience with haunted attractions.  Depending on how this was set up, it could go a lot of different ways with the local traditions.  (something I virtually guarantee these guys didn't think too much about.  Their partners might have though)

...There'd be plenty you could do with djinn and such, obviously...

See, that would take Disney level Imagineering.  Something Dubai CERTAINLY could afford, mind you.  (and exists in the market) This looks like lower tier animatronics in the video.  Why Dubai contact THAT company of all the options is a little confusing to me.  They've not even been top 10 in the nation, so just curious.

Hadn't thought of it, but genies without really great smoke effects wouldn't be proper genies at all, would they? None of that fat blue guy making illusion-busting jokes in Robin Williams' voice when you could be doing inhuman flame spirits who declined to accept Allah and want revenge on Suleiman's pampered race.

-It'd just be a lot cooler and more artistic and definitely scarier to do something properly authentic and unearthly with them...

I can see this turning into all sorts of bad.

As to why that company - same reason as most things happen - someone knew someone.

[ninja'd]

...Of course, going that way carries risks that generic movie stuff might not.  The security around this operation may or may not be good, but I guarantee there's hard men well-armed and ready standing around...

If we needed to tone it back technically, actual traditional Arabic Ghouls would be a SUPERB thing to build around.  Well within the lower special effects range.

There's ideas there you could do something with, even if they don't...

Somebody's going to issue a fatwah against idols, and it will go down hill from there. Either the thing will be neutered, or real human heads will turn up.

[shrugs] It's Dubai - rich and getting more super-spoiled at lightspeed.  There's risk, but may well be nothing happens.

You know?  Mylochka spent a couple weeks in Turkey about a decade ago - there was a conference, the gubment paid her way to come speak, and she had a grad as a native guide.  The Turks basically tried to keep her, they were so friendly, and she saw an old lady bless out some slightly unruly young punks on the bus -she was told afterwards the gist was "How dare you embarrass us in front of the American!?!"

The Islamic world has all kinds just like everywhere else, is my point; only the barbarians and troublemakers get in the news, by the nature of the thing, and it's not an accurate overview, just like coverage of the Pig sideshow in other countries isn't of us.

It was on the list when I decided to go with the Barghest instead.

I did some touring in Turkey in the 70s. I really liked the people. Fish aside, I didn't like the food. That might be different for me now. I eat a much wider variety of things.

But I wouldn't return to the Mediterranean basin again. I don't think it's safe for Americans within the historical Caliphate any more.

Momma was extremely concerned for obvious reasons - I told her "Native guide.  Ezra will take care of her."  -I believe she loved the food, BTW; she brought home some baklava from Ezra's mother, which was delicious.  -And we copied the little boxes it came in; simple cardboard shapes that fold up into excellent boxes for small gifts like jewelry.  Mylochka was on a necklace-beading tear at the time.
