Title: How should the Drones' Revolt ability work when it's the Drones' base revolting?
Post by: Yitzi on June 19, 2016, 04:19:24 PM
I can see several possibilities for what should happen (what currently happens, if playing with the patch that got the ability working in the first place, is that they revolt to the Drones), and I'm not sure which one to go with, so I'm taking a poll.  The three possibilities, as I see it, are:

1. No effect; the Drones only benefit when other factions mistreat their workers.
2. There is a 75% chance that the base simply doesn't revolt and nothing happens (no message).
3. There is a 75% chance that the base doesn't revolt, and you get a special message telling you what happened.

Despite the Free Drones' ability to have an own base revolt to self, I wonder if it might be better for play balance to not allow that? (I.e., undecided.)

Keep in mind that it wouldn't help them with regard to the production loss and destroyed facilities from riots, only reduce the danger of losing the base to another faction.

Well, my point was that the Drones are a pretty powerful faction, so do they need another benefit, even if it's small (or the way their special "should" work)?

If not, then the ability can be removed in the faction editor, as the same argument could be applied to the effect on other factions' revolting bases as well.

Honestly, I would leave it unchanged.  In my mind, the Drones of the Free Drones faction are the NON-drones of other factions.  So if they revolt, it's because they want to join another faction and be "more productive".

At least, that's how I've rationalized it :)

Have the city taken over by the barbarian AI.

Oh wait, wrong game.

Heh, a mindworms-infested city WOULD be interesting...rather than having the mindworms destroy the city.  But I digress.

There are several custom factions somewhat along those lines, you know - a scenario like that would be totally doable.

BTW - OT, but praise to Yitzi for punctuating the thread title correctly - decidedly not everyone seems to know that rule, and it's a pet peeve of mine.  ;b;
