Not any less moral than the fact that we breed and slaughter animals by the billions for our convenience. (I eat meat, btw.)

The lack of appropriate methods for the creation of free spaces for the animals appears cruel and unusual for the animals because it constricts and destroys the freedom of the animals. The animals should remain in captivity only for breeding programs of endangered species and the flocks of meat animals that could never survive in the wild anyways.
