Title: Manual Poll: Last game you lost sleep to play?
Post by: Unorthodox on May 10, 2016, 04:05:11 PM
hEt went out an bought herself the latest Uncharted game at the special "midnight" (EST, so 10 pm) release, and was up late playing.

Think she come to bed around 1:30, after which I didn't get back into a good sleep...

If it hadn't been delayed so many times, she would have arranged to have a few days off as well.

What's the last game you altered your schedule just to play?

I didn't rearrange anything for xcom 2, but it was a happy coincidence it came out around one of my weekends with Friday off.  Even then, I didn't significantly alter my sleep schedule as I normally stay up late if hEt is working and I'm not.

I think the last one I specifically arranged schedule around was Guild Wars (original), in order to meet with other people's schedule online.  (never have con play a healer)

Probably Skyrim.

If Bethesda would make a tolerable 3rd person mode, I'd get sucked into their games a lot better.  As it stands, there's only specific builds I can play in first person, and my interest in such games revolves around trying different builds.

Honest-to-God, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri/Alien Crossfire.

If I'd had a computer capable at the time of release, I imagine I would have gotten sucked into that a lot more hardcore. (we were on a mac at the time) As it was, I never discovered SMAC until after Civ III (in fact, it was through MrWIA and the Civ III demogame I got introduced to SMAC), and there are elements I find more work than enjoyable, partially as a result.

I'm somewhat that way about II, which I came to after SMAC, which made it seem a bit crude.  It was like CivII done better -and weird, and there's a great story and leaders with personality- so that's unfortunate timing on your part.

Yeah, I didn't like their 3rd person mode at all and I don't generally play 1st person games much. But stealth sniper worked really well for me in 1st person. In Skyrim I was all about the quests and did every major and most of the minor ones.

I've stayed up until past sunrise many times because things were happening that I just "couldn't" tear myself away.

And Space Empires IV.
I don't play anything newer.

I haven't really been on a schedule.
Civ V was the last thing that I anticipated the way people anticipate a Star Wars release.

A jewel-style game called Cookie Cats which came out this month has me fascinated. I find the singing cartoon cats entertaining. They are hypoallergenic.

I don't really stay up, but I have run the battery out on the Fire playing it.
