Title: Working on base faction overhaul and having an issue with starter units.
Post by: Linamints on April 13, 2016, 09:49:15 PM
I'm getting back into Alpha Centauri and decided to pick up the project I was working on last time, which is the descendants faction set.
I am trying to make it so that each of these factions that are the descendants of the original have a few things to show they built off of the original factions instead of just starting on planet.

The issue I'm having however, is the extra unit (I want everyone to start with one extra colony pod and a former) aren't appearing when I load the game. The default colony pod is of course there, but the extra colony pod and former are not.

It seems like if I re-start a few times a colony pod will materialize at the start of the game, but I'm not sure if this is a difference in maps or something that actually comes from my faction bonus.

This is the bonus line from my test faction file:
FACILITY, 4, SOCIAL, +GROWTH, SOCIAL, +INDUSTRY, SOCIAL, ++PLANET, EFFIC, UNIT, 0, UNIT, 1, TERRAFORM, 0,  WORMPOLICE, 0, PSI, 9

The issue might originate from the presence of the bolded portion above in the test file. The removal of the bolded portion, or the placement of "ROBUST," or "IMMUNITY," before the term should rectify the problem.

@Dio Thank you for the reply! I removed the bolded portion. The colony pod spawns more frequently (just in constantly testing through hitting start new game), but it is not a guarantee still. It seems like in particular, if I choose a bigger map size the colony spawn doesn't spawn at all.

The formers have yet to make an appearance, and all setting the formers into the line seems to have done is set my home base to produce formers first instead of the default defensive unit.

After doing a few more test maps the former finally appeared.

After fiddling with it, adding the terms in with effic finally got them both to start spawning. Thank you so much! Now I just have to learn to balance, testing out some psi attack buffs made early game WAY too easy!  ;lol
