Title: CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEAS
Post by: Rusty Edge on December 19, 2015, 02:56:26 AM
My wife is an accomplished shopper. Seeing how many discounts she can get on the same purchase is her favorite game. As soon as she finds something she wants or needs, she acquires it, unless she can't get a price she thinks is reasonable.

So that means that she is a challenge to buy for. So not only do I have to keep my eyes open all year, put on my thinking cap, but I do a lot of google searches like "Gifts for her" "Gifts for the woman who has everything" "is hard to shop for" etc.

As far as an anniversary gift goes, she is always happy for a flower arrangement from the florist who did our wedding flowers.

Birthdays and Christmas are a challenge.
I thought I'd share my best find this year- Purse lights!

1) http://www.uncommongoods.com/product/automatic-handbag-illuminator (http://www.uncommongoods.com/product/automatic-handbag-illuminator)

2) http://www.amazon.com/Handbag-Automatic-Perfect-Motion-Activated-Wasserstein/dp/B015IXS83E (http://www.amazon.com/Handbag-Automatic-Perfect-Motion-Activated-Wasserstein/dp/B015IXS83E)

3) http://www.amazon.com/GlitzSee-Motion-Activated-Purse-Light/dp/B00J8TVUEO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1450491615&sr=8-4&keywords=handbag+light (http://www.amazon.com/GlitzSee-Motion-Activated-Purse-Light/dp/B00J8TVUEO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1450491615&sr=8-4&keywords=handbag+light)

They work on motion sensors, so that they turn on whenever you start rummaging inside the purse.
Yes, a flashlight could serve the same purpose, but you'd have to find it first, then use it to find what you're looking for, potentially adding to search time.

After a bad delivery experience once upon a time, I am now about in-stock and guaranteed delivery. I found #1. I gave it to my wife as a belated St. Nick's gift ( apparently it's the tradition here to put out stockings for December 5th. Christmas with the tree is still celebrated on December 25th. ) because she was "feminie canining" about her purse being a black hole. It worked!

She loved it so much, she decided to buy them for all of the women on our list. She found #2, which was smaller and cheaper. The niece who lives with us was issued hers immediately. It fell on the floor and flew to pieces upon impact. Being mechanically inclined she quickly got it reassembled and working. She keeps hers on the purse's car key strap. She loves it. The reviews are pretty good, all 4s and 5s with 18 responses.  Trouble is, this source is out of stock at the moment.

As for #3, I have no experience with it. It's priced cheap and looks the part. But it comes up in my searches for the other two, and might be the best bang for the buck.

The beauty of the purse light is that it will get a lot of use, and whoever gets this gift will think of you often.

Sorry; I procrastinated answering this, so it won't do any good this year (unless you're in a time zone when the stores are still open).

Seriously, get a head start during the Boxing Day sales (some stores extend that into the first week of January). This is Canada's version of Black Friday, so I don't know if you do this sort of thing in the U.S. - standing outside in pre-dawn chill, waiting for the store to open, glad that the Tim Hortons across the street had the presence of mind to open so there's a source of something hot to drink...

After Christmas sales are common, though not nearly as widely popular as Black Friday.  Black Friday, you're waiting with THOUSANDS of people.  After Christmas, Dozens.  I was waiting outside for the store to open in the wee early hours on the 26th.  Looking to buy up a silly $1 light...

"Only" came away with 10 of them.

Sticking with the purse theme, as my wife is a legitimate purse collector/trader, I bought purse accessories again for St. Nick's Day. I found the same model as my second link someplace on Amazon.

I also got some plastic hooks which attach to the car headrest so that you can hang a purse on the back of the front seat. This keeps things from spilling, and it keeps the purse from being soiled on the floor mats. This is a thing if your lady buys designer purses that she won't rest on the floor.

This looks like the better one, because the hook sticks out slightly further. If you Google that, you'll see some other options that are designed for grocery bags.

ChiTronic x155 Car SUV Seat Back Headrest Hanger Hooks, Black, Set of 2
I paid $7.99

I also got one with a magnetic mount designed for cell phone use by the back seat passenger. The trouble is, on my wife's Charger at least, the hook doesn't stick out far enough, and the magnetic swivel has to serve as the hook.

Headrest Mount MEIDI Car Backseat Purse Hanger Hook Universal Tablet Headrest Mount Organizer Magnetic Phone eReader iPad Holder (Silver) I found it for $11.99

My gift to my wife this year was raising the 2-cat limit to 3. So I'm not really looking for anything else.

My wife makes it easy for me, usually sending me a specific link "buy THIS".

My deal is I make damn sure each of the KIDS get her a little something.  I take them out shopping to find mom something, and try to steer them towards things she'll actually like.

One thing to do it to see what they think she would want and see how close (or far away) they are from what you are steering them towards.  This way, they might also have something that you might not have even considered as a possible gift...

That's the point.

It's more the boys tend to go for 'oh she likes chocolate' when I know she's trying to AVOID chocolate type situations.

Talia usually has a pretty good bead on the boss, though.  (or hEt knows I mine her for info so feed her info, don't really care)

Just saw this, for what it's worth, a set of thermometers for baking potatoes on the grill.

Just the usual bottle of champagne for the parents, and something as yet undetermined for the sister-in-law organizing Chrismas Eve. ;)

This is the thread I was actually searching for. I've been researching this week, and found a few interesting things.

I could see a couple nieces going for "tactical" hair clips-
https://www.amazon.com/Mini-Tactical-Multitool-Hair-Clips/dp/B01BF26PN2/ref=sr_1_9?m=A188D9O7MJER1I&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1542348960&sr=1-9 (https://www.amazon.com/Mini-Tactical-Multitool-Hair-Clips/dp/B01BF26PN2/ref=sr_1_9?m=A188D9O7MJER1I&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1542348960&sr=1-9)

You can have a silver necklace made in the likeness of your pet from a photo-

The link from the boss this year is something folks might be able to use:

For activities that don't work with a traditional wedding band.

This is an inexpensive multi-tool which isn't considered a weapon.

I became a multi-tool guy as a farmer. I concluded over time that the often the key is to have a tool right now, rather than the right tool later. The reasoning is that you can tighten that loose screw or nut when you see it, rather than wait for it to fall off, fly apart, and require parts and repairs. The same goes for making adjustments. Of course now, so many places are weapons free zones, that I wind up taking stuff out of my pocket all of the time, and then it isn't there when I reach for it.

Along those lines, I fully endorse the Big Larry lights.  No glove box should be without one.

How much does your wife like to decorate the interior of your house? I realized that she's a shopaholic and that finding a bargain price is her mania.

She used to be a big Christmas decorator and would decorate the insides some for Halloween. Basically, the cats have taken over. We don't put up much anymore because they might knock it down or break it or eat it. I have no idea why, but cats like to eat ribbons. Her mania is more about how many discounts she can get on the same transaction.
