Title: How far ahead do you plan?
Post by: Unorthodox on December 18, 2015, 01:14:14 PM
Sitting down this morning, 2016 calendar.  Marking out vacations for the year.  Shortly after Christmas I'll budget out Halloween for 2016.

We typically have hEt's schedule a month out, so other things are on that schedule.

Items popping up in the week happen, but start to stress me.  Spring something on me with not even a day to plan and I'll be frustrated to no end.

That doesn't mean everything goes to plan, I'm fairly good at adjusting the particulars of a situation on the fly, I just really like the general layout planned in advance.  As mentioned previously, I firmly believe it was our preparing for my layoff for a year before it happened that allowed us to weather it.

No plan. I have so many people with their hands on my clock ;), I hardly have time for myself. Well, not that bad, but some days seem so.

Depends on what I'm planning. I've got a couple of things that are scheduled every week or two, and I'm amazed that I managed to book a ride on the handi-bus on such short notice (2 days from now).

But I can dither for hours, wondering what to have for supper. I have a vague plan for Christmas dinner. If the Chinese restaurant is open on the 24th, it'll be Chinese food. If not, I'll just open a can of chili. Or I might still have a turkey TV dinner in the freezer.

Actually, I plan my Big Fish Games purchases more carefully than most things in my life. After all, maximizing the discounts to get those free games is a game in itself.

Usually the answer seems to be not far ahead enough, regardless of the situation and time spent planning.

In May of 2012, I planned to get a degree in astronomy. That plan will finally come to fruition this time next year. Beyond that I have no plans... except for the several billion year plan to create an all-consuming telepathic techno-blob, of course.

I've never been financially stable enough to have real plans. There have been points in the past when I could make limited plans (visit long-distance girlfriend, go on road trip, etc.), but I haven't been very good at the whole life trajectory planning. I do make budgets and the like, but I have trouble sticking to them.

Life happens in unexpected ways. I think the important multi-year plan is for retirement. Beyond that, my long range plans tend to have been changed by reality.

I've got my next 2 days' worth of meals planned. The month-end bills are going to be paid on Monday. That's as far futureward as I'm planning right now.

Oh, other than the next round of Iron Pen at CFC, in January.
