Title: What did you want to be when you grew up?

*When I was a kid living 100 yards from the tracks, I wanted to be an engineer on an EMD F-7

*Later I wanted to be a space pioneer/colonist. Not an astronaut who risked his life exploring new places in space. I wanted to be a guy that lived on the Moon or Mars, and built stuff in low gravity, or tended underground or greenhouse gardens, or homesteaded on the surface, with an awesome view of the galaxy. Something like that.

*As I read more books, and the space program fizzled, I thought that these hermits I read about had the best job possible. Most days nobody spoke to them. They were alone with their thoughts and studies!

1. Teacher
2. Astronomer
3. Librarian
4. Various other things, but by that time I already was grown up.

My hopes were essentially anything having to do with books. My first real job was running printing presses; everything from business cards to small books.

...Graphics (mostly printing) in high school was the single most useful course I ever took anywhere -mostly for the layout and design principals, but also for half of what I know of the nuts-and-bolts of film photography- and I have over seven years of college to my credit.  (Dr.) Mylochka also took Graphics, and passionately agrees...

Psychiatrist, for some reason, but I wasn't terribly attached to it.  In truth, I've never really wanted to be anything at all.  I've always been inclined to view work as an unfortunate necessity to put food on the table, not something I identify myself by.

I intially wanted to enter zoology. I also agree with the portion about not connecting my identity to a job or a career ;b;.

I can respect that, although it seems so novel to me. I had to re-learn it the hard way. I take it neither of you are ethnic Germans.

I am, and I strongly considered psychology around age 18.  I'm sorta good at hearing out people's problems and making good suggestions...

The old Toys R Us commercial resonated. Still doing my best not to grow up, but not as successful as I'd hoped.
