Title: YitziPatch & vanilla SMAC?

Well as periodically happens I have the SMAC bug again..

I'd really love to edit planetpearl rewards down to 0 but I see that only Yitzi's patch allows that. Is it compatible with SMAC-only (no expansion)?

...I think it will work.  Is this you have an old copy from before Crossfire, or don't like Crossfire and installed on vanilla SMAC?  If the latter, it should definitely work...

The version I have is from Good Old Games and there are separate .exe files to run SMAC (terran.exe) and SMAX (terranx.exe). Same with the alpha files - there's alpha.txt and alphax.txt.

I CAN load SMAX any time I want. I'm just not a fan. I looked at the features list and it's like everything I don't want (gimmicky/OP factions and a lot of sea base stuff)
Am I giving this dude a bum steer?

Yitzi patch is only for SMAX, which is why there was that activity a little while ago to try and replicate SMAC in the SMAX engine.

The most up to date patch for SMAC is either kyrub or scients v2. If we had stickied threads or wiki articles on each patch and had changelogs, etc. there it would be easier to find out.

As it is, we'll just have to look through scient's posting history.

He's got a pretty thorough changelog, but I'm not absolutely sure he included it in the scientIfic2.0 posting in December.

I didn't pay a lot of attention to how well the SMAC-in-SMAX project actually worked.  Should I point Tamalak at it?

The changelogs are good, what's not good is that I can't find them or scient v2 patch. Maybe I'm just being dense.

The best place to go for information on the unofficial patches is the wiki, which explains fairly clearly what's available and has up-to-date links to all the patches except scient v2.

Wiki: Improving your game (http://alphacentauri2.info/wiki/Installing#Improving_your_game).

As far as I remember SMAC in SMAX stalled when we couldn't get rid of the SMAX native life, and maybe something else as well. I don't know that we ever published an easy to use installer or whatever.

Which reminds me that I should probably nominate some of the stuff we stalled on for that project to Yitzi.

Yes.

Thanks for the link. I'll update the wiki. Do you know if kyrub has released anything since 444j?

Also, do you know if Yitzi incorporated Scient's v2 changes into his patch?

Re-reading the SMAC within SMAX threads (also hard to find), the only thing I'm fairly sure is still broken is fungal towers. I think there were some other things, but I can't remember and can't test from here.

Note: Making that "Installation" page on the wiki more visible from the forum would be a good idea. Might be worth revising the advice to use Ford's mod_manager. If people started using that we could set up a proper repository of packaged mods and patches and have the manager check it for updates.

I do believe kyrub has.  I do believe Yitzi did, but I'm surprised he hasn't been by already since I started this thread; he'll know.

Note: Our Downloads section sucks, and we need something better - but we need it onsite; a lot of the purpose of even having the darn thing is lurkerbait.  I'm open to suggestions and eager for improvement within that parameter.

I'll point wassisname at SMAC in SMAX with the caveat that it's not completely finished yet...

The project is completely unusable at the moment.

I did produce altered versions of the tech tree, helpx, some dialogue and some wider alphax.txt changes, but I don't know where they are now on the forum. I can probably find them again on my local machine when I'm back home.

I'm sure I posted about some problems with sealurks or something that I was experiencing. So I think there's another thread somewhere about it I can't find.

The project did produce the ideas for the work that I and some others did and it established what work needed to be done. The project also spawned mine and Ford's mod managers as tools for installing the mod.

As for downloads and so on, I think they should be done separately to the forum but with prominent linking back here (same top bar). If we had a repo for the mod manager then we could put in a "discuss this mod" link in the manager to bring things back here.

Same top bar and all that sounds good - if I have admin access and everything's set up like part of the forum, looks like part of the forum and acts like part of the forum -only it works- I don't see any reason to care where it's hosted.  Uh, make it so. ;)

-I meant to say I think 444 is the last thing kyrub put out.  That's the one he called some sort of test, isn't it?

All kyrub's SMAC AI enhancement patches that I've seen are 444[some letter]. The latest version I can find is 444n (or something, I linked it on the wiki).

Yitzi implemented all the .exe stuff we needed for the SMAC in SMAX mod and I didn't know! When I get back home I'll pull together the last bits and pieces and publish a mod, advertising ford's mod manager and yitzi's patch at the same time.
