I depends on what the heck you meant.
Well, the Supreme Court made a major decision the other day, and I sure didn't have a dog in that fight - but I'm astonished and delighted that a conservative court did the right thing. I know I totally didn't give away a certain leaning on the issue in reply #4, and my apologies for not warning y'all to brace for a shock.
The rant I was not awake enough to tackle yet the other morning? Here; I don't owe anyone my private thoughts running in harness with anyone else's, my agreement, or my approval, however much society demands it. I have the right to my own prejudices, for all that I don't want them. I'm more interested in understanding everyone whether or not I conclude that I approve. And alternate sexualities? Well, I'm personally a bit of a prude. Whatever; screw you if you judge me for that. I get unhappy when people with mainstream sexual modes are too publically bold, under that "what would Mamma think?" rule of thumb I've mentioned. I don't need a lot of details about what you like, necessarily. If it ain't my problem, I've learned to not go looking to MAKE it my problem. Fearing, hating, just bad-mouthing whatever you find other, is a very human thing to do - but something we as a species need to be working to grow out of. The fearing/hating? You a bad person if you let those eat you up, not because you owe anyone your thoughts, but because those are not conducive to learning the real truth(s) - and because they are hard to keep from showing and letting them lead you in words and/or behavior is rude. We all need to avoid rudeness, for as Kurt Vonnegut Jr. said in the preface to Jailbird: "Love may fail, but courtesy shall prevail."
Fair deal for everybody is what I say. People all ought to be cool to each other - if not awesome, and loving is probably too much to ask. But polite and considerate and fair deals all around. It's simple to say, and nothing is ever simple in this messed-up world of ours - but let's cut the bull; they're citizens, and this was right.
Thoughts?
.Funny because it's true...
Caesar ain't gonna come into your church (synagogue, mosque, kingdom hall, whatever) and make your preacher (rabbi, etc.) do no marriages he don't want to. People frame it as a religious issue, and are moderately stupid to do so - it has everything to do with what a lot of people/cultures find Other and distasteful, and very little to do with religion. You do love America, don't you?
AND, for anyone who gives a poop about American Principals, framing it as religious is inherently a logical fallacy and an own goal; by Caesar's own rules, he may not legislate according to religious dictates. Reckon that's where the conservative swing vote came from...
*No intent to offend anyone here who may have strong opinions either way... I just don't understand why it's anyone's business who complete strangers want to marry. As long as it's not incestuous, forced marriage, or one of those illegal polygamous things with underage girls, let people live their lives.
The people I know who are either in same-sex marriages or other relationships are not "degenerates" in any way.Heh. Yes they are. Whats next after "gay marriage?" Hmm? Bestiality? Ten year olds having sex changes?
