Title: In Which We Speak of NFL and other type things.
Post by: Metaliturtle on June 17, 2015, 04:26:17 AM
I'll admit to being a lifelong Green Bay Packer Fan, but I really think that this year's Packers are going to be serious contenders with a chance to do it while making it look easy.

Whole offense returning this year with a lot of 2nd year vets.

Raiders fan.

You know how serious I am about it by admitting that after more than a decade of suck.

With that decade of suck I haven't paid as much attention to the broader NFL than I normally would.  I thought GB's biggest problem was lack of a run game last year, was that addressed or am I thinking of a previous year?

Thing is, I was a Raiders fan BECAUSE of Al Davis, not IN SPITE OF Al as a lot of folks are.  Not sure the current administration knows what they're doing, but they seem to be headed in the right direction finally.

Realistically, we're at least a year out from being real serious contenders at anything, but if Carr progresses quick enough, they are poised to turn a few heads and potentially be in the running towards season end at a wildcard.

A lot depends on the offensive line coming together after 4/5 have been replaced.  From the start of last season to this, 7/11 projected starters on offense have changed.  That's a huge turnover for anyone to overcome, so I expect them to struggle more early and come together later.  On paper, all the moves are good, they just have to become a team.

Defensively, we still have some glaring holes in the secondary, and that's gonna hurt.  The front 7 look solid on paper, now just if they can play as a unit.

This is the best coaching staff I've ever seen put together on any Raiders team top to bottom.  We've had great coaches in places before, but top to bottom, this is a great staff.

Eddie Lacy's numbers last year show we dealt with the run game ;)

I've liked the Raiders and love that Al Davis was basically trolling the NFL.  I hope they do good, they rarely play Green Bay.  It's a passing league now so if your secondary is shot you'll have a hard time against Manning, but you probably know that all ready.

I think I only watched the NFC championship and was left wondering why they didn't run more when they had the lead to eat time and Rodgers injured.  Guess I just assumed the run game was lacking as the likely answer.

Theoretically an improved pass rush will help the young DBs, and there's always the CHANCE they grow into good ones...(yeah right)

Fitting theme song for a Halloween obssessed footbal fan's team.  Not to mention every home game may as well be Halloween.

Hm, later in the season, in Oakland, we'll either be coming together or falling apart at that point, should be a good test for the Raiders, and potentially an important one for the Packers.  What you have in mind?

It's Utah.  Of course not.

https://www.wasatchbeers.com/beers.aspx (https://www.wasatchbeers.com/beers.aspx)

I can't recommend any in particular as I don't drink.  Plenty of locals got hot and bothered by the early marketing poking fun at the predominent religion.  Most the beers are seasonal now, though polygamy porter is available most the time.

Unlike the cofeehouse (also against the religion) that poked  fun, these guys managed to stay in business.

What do you think will come of the Packers' tight end pulling a pistol in South Beach and squeezing off a couple of rounds to assert his dominance when a car load of women told him to leave them alone?

Will the new serious about violence towards women NFL act?

I will assume the Packers have a plan for that position, if only to avoid getting Jermichael'ed again.  The beauty of the team is that there are very few players who are crucial at any given positon

Will they act?  Yes.

Will they act appropriately?  Who knows.

Will it impact the Packer?  Not really.  I'm a little surprised they didn't release him on sight.

Well, after seeing the final roster, I'd rate the Raiders as dicey at best.

Injuries along the offensive line don't bode well for the running game, which in turn don't bode well for Derek Carr.  (the backups are actually decent pass blockers, so not so worried about protection as I am turning one dimensional)  Derek hasn't played well all preseason, but he was much more a second half get it going type last year anyway, so not sure how concerned to be there.

Behind Murray, there doesn't appear to be much of a run game at all.

Defensively, the front 7 look decent.  Backing down from "Good" with some curious final cuts.  The CB's look suspect, and the Safeties have no depth if a starter goes down.

I can see what they're building, but they're lacking some key pieces.  I'm guessing 6-10ish record, be thrilled with an 8-8, but they could surprise a bunch if Derek suddenly clicks and gets confidence in his receivers instead of consistently throwing to the check down.

I hope that the NFL gives Tom Brady the Pete Rose treatment.

Ah.. religious discussions.

As I was walking through Wally World looking for supplies for my minions that reside in the Temple, I walked past multiple shrines to the local deity, the LSU Tiger god. The New Orleans Saint god is on the way as well.
They also absolutely decimated the meat department.

But I hate to tell you blasphemers that Drew Bees(us) throws touchdowns for your sins. He walks across Lake Ponchartrain and farts lemon spray. I feel the Saints, though lacking depth are not to be dismissed this year.

Fortunately, none of you have discussed those demonic Dirty Birds of the ATL. So, I guess I will not have to send the henchmen out to reeducate anyone. :D

These photos camouflage a family that does not stray numerically from the norm of this society. That family has the husband, the wife, the son, and the daughter.

Mike tried to scent-mark Mylochka once.
That incident sounds very unpleasant.

Well, coming up on the Packers game this week, the Raiders are about where I predicted, sitting at 6-7 presently (though winning this week took a bit of luck).

The Oline is still down men, and the run game sputters at it's best.  Carr can get hot, but makes a lot of young QB mistakes.

Defensively, the front 7 continue to play solid, and the pass defense revolves solely around them getting pressure.  Some of the young CB's have stepped up, and Woodson is somehow playing ball hawk at a high level, still.

Packers have struggled offensively lately, but looked like they figured some of that out this week.

The local sportscasters are crediting head coach Mike McCarthy for resuming play calling duties, which were assigned to the O-coordinator. A lot of fans think it was McCarthy's uninspired play-calling that lost the play-off game with Seattle.

Aaron Rogers says it's all a matter of execution.

Whatever is going on, the fans will tell you that they'd rather be playing well at the end of the season and going into the play-offs than going undefeated all season and have nothing left for the play-offs.
