Title: Weird bug in Xfire
Post by: Jagged_One on June 15, 2015, 11:29:21 PM
I am an old AC player, but the original CD got lost in a move at some point. I recently bought the package with both AC and xFire at gog.com, and have been playing and enjoying xFire a lot lately. At least until I noticed something weird ---> I found units from one of the other AI societies in one of my cities, and my units were missing. The panel on the right showed that this city still owned the units that used to be here, but there was nothing I could do to access them, i.e., I could not click on one and move it out of the city, etc. I tried several things - reloading, quitting and re-starting, even backing up a few save levels. Nothing helped....the same thing happened at the same point each time.

I played again a few days later and the same thing happened again. The next time I played xFire, something even stranger happened. I was attacking an enemy city. Because I was Governor, I could look inside the enemy city, which I did to determine how many units I needed to destroy. Imagine my surprise when I saw several of my own units inside the enemy city !!! I wound up having to fight my own units !!!

Another time, I found one of my copters sitting out in the middle of the ocean !!!

Does anyone know if this is a known bug ? Is there an update available that would fix it, or a work-around, perhaps with an .ini file ?

When I display the version inside the game, it says:

Version 2.0
20 December 1999

Thanks in advance !!!!

I know that one-of-your-units-trapped-in-an-enemy-stack/city is a thing.  I've destroyed a few that way, too.

I think I've gotten the disappearing units, too, but never a bunch at once, so hard to say.

Yitzi is going to ask you for a savegame where it happened, preferably before, during and after...

Indeed (almost): Not much can be done about the bug without the ability to replicate it (i.e. a savegame before and instructions to make it happen; a savegame after is preferable but not required, and I'm not even sure what "during" would mean.)
