You can change your vote, but the poll runs only till the end of 2015.

I voted singleplayer now and then, but I also qualify for stone age ownership...

I added one more option. Since everyone can change the vote, I hope this is no issue in these first minutes.

I bought the game when it came out in 1999, along with another obsession of mine, HOMM3. I lost the cd's for both games in 2003 or so. Bought it again! Lost the CD's again, got a pirated copy. Finally got the GOG copy of HOMM3 but the GOG version of SMAC didn't have SMACX (which I found funner than the original).

I don't play multiplayer and don't intend to. My experiences with Starcraft showed me that as competitiveness increases, fun decreases. I like the ability to play a game when I feel like it, rather than feeling "nagged" to. Or to give up when I feel like it.

Sometimes I wish they just "reskinned" the game with Beyond Earth graphic (or maybe a fantasy skin as well) and fixed the bugs.

The game is as close to perfect as can be and nearly 20 years later, I still find it compelling as hell.

Along with HOMM3, another compelling game.

Far from it.  Even discounting the bugs, there are definitely ways it could be made more interesting.

It might be the greatest 4X game ever made, but it can still be improved...

(By the way, you should probably be aware that whether a game becomes more or less fun with increased competitiveness depends a lot not only on the player but also the game.  The point about feeling pressured to play your turn is going to hold across all multiplayer play, though...)

It looks like we are mostly singleplayers here.
I wonder, if some old way of playing of SP games will revive us a little...

I bought Civ: BE last weekend, thinking I could replace SMAC with a modern game. Big mistake.

50 turns in nothing exciting had happened. Plus I really really hate 1upt.

Not a fan of BE.
