Title: Chat Thread!
Post by: Flux on December 30, 2014, 04:52:26 AM
Go ahead and start the thread as you wish. No need to ask for permission :)
Everybody has things they want to say that don't deserve a fully-blown thread. So I made this.

A few questions to pose to this community.

1. Why does Doctrine: Air Power require Doctrine: Flexibility and not Doctrine: Initiative as a prerequisite? The blurb specifically mentions that air power rests at the apex of mobility, flexibility and initiative.
2. Does the icon/logo for Doctrine: Loyalty look like a stylized s?

Statements:
1. The blurb for Sentient Econometrics has no bearing on what the technology is supposed to represent.

I'd say its because Flexibility is the most basic one of the two. Also, this way one could have air jnits before cruisers. A matter of strategic researching choices.

I am currently rearranging tech tree for a mod. And this is a great remark as to implement such change.
However, cruisers would be switched with foils, and I wonder, if foils should be in Initiative tech or maybe even further. Initiative tech is good to host some of the marine/naval stuff, that was added with crossfire expansion.

Good question.  They probably originally planned to have it be after Initiative, and then decided that Doctrine:Initiative would be too powerful if it were a prerequisite for a midgame tech.  Unfortunately, Doctrine: Air Power is too powerful if it has such an early tech as one of its prerequisites...

Probably, but it's still one of the most important blurbs in the game.

Which of the original seven factions do you think makes the most logical sense to get the Impunity bonus and which one the Penalty Negative effect? What social model do you think that bonus or penalty should apply to?

I did read the Fellowship of the Ring.

A lot of people disagree, but I think The Simarillion rocks beyond despcription, too - maybe you had to read the Bible a lot as a kid for fun, because it reads similarly.

I read The Complete Original Sherlock Holmes in four nights. It took me two months to read The Silmarillion.

Well, it's very sketchy in places - but a wonderful and deep narrative, on the whole.  -And you spot things referenced as far back as The Hobbit that you didn't get when you first read it.  Tolkien really had a lot worked out in that world, and a familiarity with The Silmarillion adds enormously to your future enjoyment of re-reads of the rest of the books.

It's a real shame that Tolkien is dead (according to wikipedia)
So, how are the hobbit movies? And books? I'll probably read them soon, as my sister owns a copy of "The Hobbit," but I'd like to see opinions.
Everyone else seems to love them.

During moments like these, when the Rec Commons and Council Room are quiet, I generally listen to music.
Which is a good excuse to give the rec commons "Music" thread more activity.
And in turn, I can up my post count. Which means I'll get EC. Which means I can buy a sticky.

I've decided if I ever learn to script, the first serious thing I'm ever going (attempt and likely fail) to make is a faction-graphic-template generator.
-Insert leaderhead: Automatic crop.
-Insert base: Automatic crop, dead center of base box, auto shields and water platform (Actually I think this would be pretty difficult to do)
-Insert logo, automatic color increase/decrease for the smaller ones and automatic crop.
-2 and 3 files generated automatically
And it all saves in one nice folder.
That, my friends, would be a faction artist's dream.

Hey, BU, do you like GIMP or Photoshop better?
I mean for doing the kind of stuff here. Like editing leaderheads, making faction art, image rehashes
-I've never used Photoshop. I don't plan to get it, but I wanted to know your opinions. Plus I'm only just starting to know the ins and outs of GIMP.
All of your tutorials are for GIMP, which helps.
Title: Re: Chat Thread!
Post by: Buster's Uncle on January 10, 2015, 02:36:06 AM
I got my start with an old version of Photoshop -but it's an airplane control panel in complexity, and I did all I could in MS Paint, pasting over and using Photshop to save, mostly, at first- but I lost the use of it in an upgrade a few years ago, and have become far more comfortable with GIMP, which is why most of the tutorials shifted to that.  It's also better for animating .gifs compared to the versions of PS I'm familiar with.  I did finally get a version of PS that runs on my current machine, but don't have to use it much.

Incidentally, regarding you saving up enough fake forum money to buy a stickie - try to pile up 500 and deposit in the bank; once you get enough in your account, the interest adds up.  I've deposited many tens of thousands as I went, but most of my billions are interest...

I have 659 EC in the bank currently.
It'll kind of suck to have to restart completely once I buy the stickie though, I'm thinking I should wait till 2.5k before I buy it.

The farmer's market is only open on Sunday.
The fact is, I could just climb over that fence and pick my OWN oranges.
And the only reason for that is because the grove closest to me is dead. They cut down 29 rows of the grove next to me for construction ._.
So the ones left are goners anyway.

I'd be okay with some dumb fun.
But I'll just start with Dragonball and see if I like it. Although the mission to convert me into an anime fan was a success, judging by the 5 hours I've spent glued to the screen.

-Of course, I would probably spend 5 hours with ANY good show. But these are pretty good. And I won't have to wait to see the end of story arcs from the 80's.

Apparently it's on 2.8.14.
Well, the UI hasn't changed much (or maybe at all) as all of your tutorials are still relevant. I'm actually considering doing a full-reset of this craptop to make it run at a decent pace.
Screw it, just going to reset now. I'm sure that'll get GIMP working.
EDIT: I have no windows install disc, as this came with 7 factory-install and 8 as an upgrade I bought years ago. Oh well. It just means the inevitable death of this machine will come faster.

"Half-Smart?"
It's the smartest show I've watched, not counting The Twilight Zone
And if it's only half-smart by anime standards, then I'm excited to see whats next.

Like Ghost in the Shell, it definitely THINKS it's smart.

You'll understand when you're older...  :P  ;lol

Lotta people talking really fast, thrashing out the obvious, if you ask me.  I'd love to see a dub that kept the plots, but trimmed out 3/4 of the dialogue - that might be a really good show.

I will say L is probably my favorite character in fiction. Ever.

It was that guy from school.
I want to point out that
that guy means nothing special.

I finished it.
In the end I'm glad Near won, but I'd like to see what would've happened if Light had won.

In one of my classes I sit across from an anime nerd. The same one who spoiled the entire.frickin.series for me.
Gonna put on a white shirt and jeans, and sit with my feet on the chair, with my thumb in my chin...
And then.....
"Well, that would be a problem then... As I feel you're the first friend I've ever had..."

A dumb little Death Note parody video I did featuring Miriam....
You'll get a kick out of it.... Only about 25 seconds.

FMA, I recommend with very high confidence.  -A nice mixture of adventure, humor, and decent moral values.  You'll love it, because it's good.

Can I put a GIF as my avatar?
Although one of my little gifs stretched out would look bad, I suspect.

I know that I can get an animation to display - go ahead and try.  It has to fit; if the forum software auto-resizes something over 80x80, it's be turned to a still .jpg.

Edited the eating animation to be a carrot rather than a ring of flesh, err, red donut.
It shows up as an avatar fine. Maybe I'll add some rabbit ears tomorrow and you'll have a new title for me.
