No, but you need to have pre-ordered the game.

There is no free lunch Beyond Earth!

Also, anyone with a Steam account can now download Civ V for free and play it until Thursday, October 23 at 10 am Pacific.

Sadly, GMG customers (like me) will have to wait the release date.. :(

Little update: i got my key from GMG and downloaded the game. The files are encrypted though, so there's not much one can do untill the official release (http://alphacentauri2.info/index.php?topic=12818).

Quick query...

@sisko... does greenmangaming avoid the issues of Steam. For example, auto patch uploading, if steam ever breaks unusable games, etc,

I am on a tether connection. Bandwidth is precious at the moment.

If you buy from GMG you will have to download the game from Steam :o and activate it in there (Steam DRM). That's all. You can play outside of Steam afterwards (at least that's what they're saying).

Is it "always online"? The latest trend towards that is kind of disturbing due to the nature of the current political situation in the US. If GmG is just an intermediary to steam, this worries me. I wish for folks to get paid for creative work, but not at the expense of modders.

Then again, I may have bandwidth issue "solved" for what this is.
