Post by: Rymdolov on February 12, 2012, 09:01:26 AM
I've posted this elsewhere before, but it never gets boring. Enjoy:

Were you the one who posted that before?  It, indeed, never gets old.

Have you two Niflheimers  met?

Yes, I was the one. I don't recall seeing any other Northerners at WPC. Maybe there are in the non-SMAC sections, but I never visit those.

Zoid didn't hang out in AC, but he was one of two Norwegians I was aware of, the other being Nikolai - both great guys.  There was also a Finn, but VJ hasn't been around in a while.

Hey, I'm only 1/4 norwegian, 3/4 are swedish!  ;)

Hey, I'm only 1/4 norwegian, 3/4 are swedish!  ;)

That's cool. But are you a born and raised Norwegian/Swedish or are you of that descent? Do you live in Norway? Either way, I wish there was a viking smiley...  :)

Btw, this makes me want to create a bunch of Nordic factions for SMAC. But first things first; I will try and stop procrastinating current projects.

I'm juggling some high-priority things, mostly the Firaxis AC pages ATM, but I'm going to do something with the smiles down the road - a viking smilie WILL happen.

I am born and raised in Sweden, my sister lives in Oslo though...

What would Pravin do? :O The twist and robot, it seems. ;D

You have good taste in fanfic, Bruce. :D

Obviously, what Pravin would do is boogie the night away...

Zoid, I hope you would give feedback if I ever get around to creating Nordic factions (and nagging BUncle about doing the graphics...). We could make Sweden and Norway kick-ass and the other ones weak and pathetic.  ;)

I have vague ideas about a future GotM featuring national factions. But for now, my secrets shall remain my own.  :-X

Nah, spill yer guts.

You know I'm game for the graphics and general kibbitzing on the creative end.  It seems like I may have seen a Danish faction sometime - you might want to do some googling.

-Also, I always heard Finns were collectively the most depressed people in the western world, but Zoid says it's Swedes, (probably because he's one, which would affect the average,)  What have you heard?

I don't know about depression as such, but I've heard that Sweden has the highest suicide rate in the entire world. However, I've also heard that this is a myth. I think the origin of the myth was some concern in the seventies that the Swedish economy was great, crime was down, etc, etc, in short everything was great, except the suicide rate did not go down. There are huge differences between different parts of Sweden concerning suicides, though. We have a "suicide belt", similar to your Bible Belt.

Anyway, I think that anyone moving to Sweden would find Swedes generally stiff, reserved and quiet. But I once saw a Finnish guy on TV who had lived in Sweden for some time who said that what he liked about Swdes was that, compared to Finns, they were talkative, spontaneous and really knew how to party. So everything's relative, I guess...

Good to know about the Danish faction - I'll google it later. Anyway, my idea doesn't specifically need Nordic facs - any national fac would do. Actually, the idea was to save work by using existing national factions - but Nordic factions would be fun for me.  :)

Also, I had what seemed to be a good idea for a short intro piece. I'll dig it up from my memory sometime, perhaps on Sunday or Monday. I'm too tired for longer texts right now and Friday and Saturday will be family time.

EDIT

Doesn't have to be national factions as such. Regions work just as well. I know you've made a Texan faction - would that be good for using in a GotM scenario?

There's a Canadian faction at 'poly, for sure, and you might want to look up the Latin/South and Central American faction I was collaborating on at WPC - it's half-done...

A little rooting around with googling will reward the kind of thing you want.

I will admit that every time I read the word "Nordic" I think of these type of Nordics (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Nordic). ;D

Childish probably. XD It's just the usual context of the word for me.

Wellll, if we were in person and you were 10 years older, I could entertain you greatly with my Skeletor imitation - that was way after my time, but I watched me some He-Man anyway.  However, by the time the Ninja Turtles hit it big, what the kids were into had lost me for good - and you're a cycle or two beyond that.

I'm just being a boring old fart; don't sweat it.

I actually have seen He-Man a little bit. ;D It was on occasionally with morning cartoons as a child.

He-Man is childhood memories for me, though we didn't get much of the actual series. The action figures were the toy back then, though.

The Turtles (called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles in Europe because of the peculiar ninjophobia haunting the adult world at the time) came along just as I was beginning to get too old for that stuff. I thought they were pretty cool, but it was slightly embarrasing to admit to it. I slept between Turtles sheet for a while.

So I guess I'm somewhere between you age wise.  :)

"I have the POWER!!!!"

I grew up watching the Ninja Turtles on tv. I got Turtle stuff for Christmas every year until I was about 12. Then, I kinda outgrew it. But, I did watch the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe movie a lot. I wore that cassette tape out, lol.

I may have to record 30 seconds of Skeletor trash-talking He-Man and Teela and post, then.

My to-do list is getting long - but that's mostly a good thing...

Hey Rym - I was just looking for something else, and coincidentally stumbled over the Canadian faction - it's text-only, but the Britain faction I also found is full graphics, though not great ones.  Enjoy.

Mind if I split this custom faction talk off into the modding folder?
