Title: Buggy resource discovery
Post by: Crowley on October 09, 2014, 10:13:00 PM
I just had new resources discovered in my game, where the text said energy, but the picture was of minerals. Even stranger, it seems there were no actual new resources that appeared anywhere around the area where the game centered the view. I've attached a screenshot and a save that is a couple of turns before the discovery happens, apparently always. I was playing with a custom faction with the label "goempire". I'm not sure what all is needed to make the save viable for others. I am playing with the GOG version of Alien Crossfire using Yitzi's patch version 3.2.

edit: The mismatching text and picture happened to me again, but this time the resource did actually appear, and it was energy.

Any idea whether there even exists a picture for energy?  It might be that that picture is used for any marine new-resource discovery, in which case the only question is why it didn't appear the first time.

I believe these are what you're talking about...  -The equivalent for minerals, like in Crowley's screeny, matches, anyway.

Ok, then it seems it is a bug.  Are those file names the same ones as in the Alpha Centauri directory?

Except for being converted from .pcx to .png for display, yes.

I thought that was already fixed in some kind of patch?

Related to this, there are also corresponding pictures with much less of the resource, with "dp" added to the filename which I guess stands for "depleted". I'm guessing these are supposed to be used for when a resource peters out, but in the actual game it uses a picture of a graph going down when that happens. Also, the depleted picture for minerals on land seems to be missing, but that would be fairly simple to put together from other mineral pictures.
