The SMAC Club is in desperate need of 5 more members. We hope to hold 3 multi-player games once the demo comes out. The SMAC Club has 16 members right now, but at least 5 more are needed. However, that doesn't mean that we won't have more than 5 new members. Anyone is welcomed, no matter how many members are in the SMAC CLub. The only exception is Red_Dog.
So TAS, Rang, Venom, MAya, CClark, Brenda, Marian, DJ RRebel, Octopus, Lee Johnson, jsporsne (however your name is spelled)! You're all welcomed and wanted in the SMAC CLub!

Jimbo, I'm a little unclear on the purpose of your club. I will probably play multi-player, and I would like to play the people on these boards. Is that all the club is? A matchmaking service? (e.g. Jimbo and YYYH will be playing on such and such server at such and such time). If it is, why are you conducting it via chats and e-mail instead of just posting here? If your club is about ganging up on people or something like that, I'm not interested, unless it's a special purpose game (like letting all you anti-Hivers have a shot at me ). If it's some sort of league or something, I again am confused as to why there's all the convoluted message passing (I e-mail you, you e-mail me an invitation, yada yada) intead of just being clear about exactly what you're organizing. Right now, all that I know is that it's some kind of club, and it's related to SMAC. I like to know what I'm joining before I join it. You'd probably get more response if you explained it a little better rather than just extendind invitations for requests for invitations. I would certainly consider it, since you have such a distinguished membership list .

Umm, huh, that't it .
The real purpose is to have a place where you know people that you can play. We probably will gang up on the net occasionally, but not our own members of course : . We'll play each other and organize games. It may be slightly easier to organize games at the club, but otherwise, it's the same as the forums. However, there are advantages such as, we play only with people we want (no red dog ) no one can see our strategies, because the club is unlisted. There's a chat option where we can discuss stuff a lot more quickly than here. I suppose I like it, because of the chat option and the privacy.
But your right Octopus, the SMAC Club isn't really required, but we just like to have a secret group. And Octopus, there's another Hiver in the club right now too if that convinces you. Anyway, membership is open to anyone that posts in the forums, or at least know about the forums (that means you lurkers). The reason why you need an invite is because that way, we can control who enters and keep those non-SMACAs out along with Red_dogs.

Well, then I guess send me an invitation. I may not be a very active member (e.g. probably won't take part in any chats) but I definitely think that playing with you guys will be a lot of fun (assuming I get my act together and get myself a real ISP by the time the real game is out). If you're going to gang up on non-members, though, I'd suggest getting a more fearsome name than just "the SMAC Club" .

Wouln't it just be easier to use ICQ to see who's online and arange games that way? If the SMAC club it the best way to pay a game aginst you guys then I'll join too. But I think there would be an easyer alternative.

I would love to join, but I live miles away from anywhere and even though I have a 56K modem, my internet link is only 21 on a good day. Coupled with the trans Pacific link this has made on line gaming impossible when I have tried.

Oh yeah, CWAL is a group that was trying to get SC while it was still in production while Blizzard was making it, now its kinda just like a group that makes stories( well I guess I confused you more, because its essentailly a group of people making stories about trying to get SC starcraft, now Brood Wars).

Since I still go to school, I may have to leave most of the invites to Brother Greg, so for those who are still considering joining, do so before January 3.

The problem is the 100KM of antiquated outback telephone line that connects me to the ISP.
In these days of economic rationalism, it is not finacially viable for the phone company to put in an optic fibre line to isolated communities.
I already get a hefty goverment subsidy, otherwise I would not be able to connect at all.

Now that brainless Republican partisans impeached Clinton, and Livingston (a guy who made the case) resigned because he was also accused of the extramarital affair (same thing that Clinton was accused of), I think that the house of representatives is full of (beep). What a pile of idiots. My Christmas wish for all of them is that they die and go to hell. While they do, I wish to join that already overcrowded SMAC thing. If not, I suggest to start a new club that would beat the hell out of the first one!

Sorry Jimbo, busy weekend - I didn't manage to get on the 'net at all. Setting up my new computer didn't help either.

Just thought I'd add that I see this club as a place for all us oldies to hang out and shoot the breeze about SMAC, NIM and the good old days (after SMAC is released of course).
Already I see the forums being crowded by newbies (which is a good thing - the more the merrier), and I think we'll sort of loose touch if we're not careful. So I'd like to see all my friends in there (and any enemies if they really want ), and maybe a few new friends as well.
Of course, anyone can join, but this is just a plea to the old legion out there to join up (those that haven't already).

Gojackal	posted 12-20-98 09:11 PM ET Now that brainless Republican partisans impeached Clinton, and Livingston (a guy who made the case) resigned because he was also accused of the extramarital affair (same thing that Clinton was accused of), I think that the house of representatives is full of (beep). What a pile of idiots. My Christmas wish for all of them is that they die and go to hell. While they do, I wish to join that already overcrowded SMAC thing. I'll forward invites off to Marquesa, Borodino and Gojackal (and I'll see if I can turn off the "invisible invite" option ). If anyone else has problems, just drop a line in here, and either Jimbo or myself will get onto it.
Brother Greg	posted 12-20-98 11:47 PM ET Just thought I'd add that I see this club as a place for all us oldies to hang out and shoot the breeze about SMAC, NIM and the good old days (after SMAC is released of course). Already I see the forums being crowded by newbies (which is a good thing - the more the merrier), and I think we'll sort of loose touch if we're not careful. So I'd like to see all my friends in there (and any enemies if they really want ), and maybe a few new friends as well. Of course, anyone can join, but this is just a plea to the old legion out there to join up (those that haven't already). Shining1? Arnelos? And all those others that my fading memory has left out...
