Now, seeing as the master was just recently shipperd, I'm sure the coding team (and most everyone else) will be taking a much needed break. And granted, the game is yet to even be released... the demo even, I was just curious as to whether there would be patches / updates available. The user created units will help surpress the demand for new units and the like...... to an extent ^_^ Anyways, pertaining to patches, I was not so much wondering about units, maps, and the like, as you can go far with a basic map editor. But more something along the lines of bug fixes, upgrades, and / or new features in the game. Are there any plans to release fixes after the game is released? Premature... sure... but what the hey. --Baldor

Let's hope they aren't necessary, but I'm sure they will if it IS necessary. |

If you watched Brian in action after Civ II, you wouldn't even ask the question. The man was tireless in fixing, tweaking, and even enhancing the game after the fact! After sales support is the LAST thing I'm worried about from Firaxis. :-) |

Baldor,I think we can get a feeling about how Firaxis Games will deal with patches by the way that they handled their first release, "Sid Meier's Gettysburg!" which came out about 14 months ago. Shortly after its release Firaxis issued three patches. Most of the "fixes" on these patches were adjustments to game play and enhancements requested by players (such as the huge 3-day battle). There were very few actual "bugs" in the game that I recall (allowing routed troops to rally behind your lines was one). A long awaited fourth (and final) patch for SMG is expected now that SMAC has gone gold. In summary, the game was very solid to begin with and Firaxis was very responsive to gamers requests. |

We do, as always, expect to provide patches for SMAC. Obviously the actual contents are unknown at present, as patches tend to be our way of putting things we didn't think of during the project itself-- so if we'd thought of it before now, it would already be in.I expect that patches will include our usual mix of feature upgrades, bug fixes in case anyone finds any bugs :-) , and multiplayer performance enhancements. It also already seems pretty likely that there will be at least one add-on disk published later on. Brian Reynolds Alpha Centauri Designer FIRAXIS Games
