You know who you are. If you're still "in the loop" and have the ability to get the SMAC team's attention, could you please ask them to post a quick note in the forum to let us know how they're doing? Even a quick, "We're close to mastering but it hasn't happened yet; we regret that the demo will be delayed as a result" would be better than the cavernous silence we're suffering through now.
A little expectation management on Firaxis' part now could prevent a big hue and cry on December 20, if the demo won't be ready by then.

Lets hope it will do some good Lee. I think they are "building the hype" by remaining silent .......... I also think that they are "Balls to the wall" right now.

Let's just try and keep in mind that we have no reason so far to expect that the demo is delayed at all. They simply didn't release it 5 days early as we had hoped they would...

Not true! I have every reason to expect that it's been delayed. Brian hoped that SMAC would master no later than the 15th. The demo was estimated to take an additional five days to prepare. On December 8, Brian also posted the following:

Found out today we can expect the demo to "go up" about 5 days after we deliver it to Origin, so (net) around 10 days after gold master.

Now, it may well be that the SMAC team *did* master the game last week and is presently working hard to get the demo done as quickly as possible--but you'd think they'd at least mention the fact in passing.
I never expected the demo early--I'm just trying to determine whether the December 20 date is realistic anymore. In the absence of any firm information, I'm assuming it's not.
If the demo isn't out by Christmas Eve, I don't expect it before early January.

Whining may not be the right choice of words, but I think it is close. All we really want to know is are we going to be disappointed at the last minute again or not.

Frank, I was kidding and plus the word "whinging" itself is an inside joke. Basically the joke is that the only time Firaxis responds to us is when we start whinging.

Lee and Gord - you've forgotten something. When Brian said that the demo was going to be out in 5 to 10 days, he meant American Days. With the current exchange rate, that means that the demo would take 7 to 15 Canadian Days. So we shouldn't expect to see anything up here until sometime around Boxing Day. Of course, Boxing Day doesn't exist in the US (as far as I know) so look for the demo on the 27th.
(Dj, Zan, Maya and even Roland, this applies to you too.)

Cclark, thanks for counting me in. Hmm... if the Euro currencies (ie for now, the ECU) gain strength against the $, will I get it earlier as a Canadian in european exile ? And what about Bulgaria ? People there are all taller than 2 meters, as the bulgarian meter has lost a lot of value...

I suspect the answer is:
As soon as we can get it finished we'll get it up! Stop hassling us! But, of course, they'd never be that blunt.
I sort of agree with this, as much as I want the demo I know that Firaxis will be doing their best to get it to us as soon as possible and while it would be nice to know, there are a lot of things which need to be done and they might not know themselves exactly when it will be out. I think that unless they say otherwise we should believe that the 20th is the date. I won't be surprised if it doesn't happen but we will get the demo soon.
