Hey! The demo is supposed to be coming out on the 20th. Any earlier than that would be a bonus. You are lucky I am one of the more mild mannered on this Forum because I can hear flamethrowers warming up all over the world.Read the FAQ if you don't believe me. |

(flamethrower ready)fire !! Chrisk, the demo is due the 20th so everything is ok. Stop attacking Fixaxis who have worked their butts for over a year to give us all a game we will enjoy. They have endured the pain of our off-topicness without peeping a word. Firaxis is great, because if it were not for them, we would not even have a game like SMAC, but would be stuck with crap like "Call to Power". Just wait for the demo like everyone else ! |

My concern is that the SMAC team might be experiencing some last-minute delays getting the software mastered; that would push the demo date back, past the 20th. I've posted to csipg.strategic, hoping to lure Brian out for a response, but there's been no sign of him there. The "...soon!" at the end of this week's episode might mean that the demo will appear before the 21st--but it's equally likely it means that there will be only more episode, that it will be posted concurrent with the demo release, and that the demo itself might appear *after* the 21st. I don't really mind so much, provided it appears before the Christmas holidays. (It would be really nice to have the demo by my birthday--the 24th. :-) |

I'm looking forward to this game as much as anyone, but still, I do have to say...GET A LIFE! Really, if you have nothing better to do than sit and hit "reload" on a page waiting for a DEMO... |

I think the landing countdown indicator at the start page is there for ... countdown to landing!!! When I last checked it was at 28070839 If the last diget is 100'th of a second it will be 3 days 5 hours 58 minutes 28 seconds and 39 hundreds of a second before landing. In Denmark this means quite excactly one o'clock sunday morning! (CET, thats 1900 in washington DC)By the way, I think that "soon..." is a dirty trick! |

Lee, you can get parts of life to run on your PII, but only if you have a VoiceModem, microphone and speakers/headphones.I play it every once in a while, not often enough according to my wife. |

Have they made a version of that life software that works on an iMac? Or are they waiting to see if there will be a market? As for the demo not being here, right now, I'm not too surprised. Software development has a way of going awry at times, even with the best engineers and the best development tools, and proven technologoies, there exists the element of human error. Hopefully, the Hive will overcome this failing. However, the amazing thing would be if the demo did come out on the 20th-- meaning that Firaxis is still very close to schedule.... While we may all lament that the product could conceivably be delayed until spring, could you imagine what would happento Firaxsi if they released a buggy, unbalanced, Ai befuddled game? The flames would never end, and Sid and Brian would be relegated to "has-been" status. So if it takes an extra month or two to leave all but minor glitches in the system,I have no problems. Would you really want an incomplete program running and breaking most of the time? I think we all want Firaxis to grow, enough to colonize the other planets of Alpha Centauri at least, and maybe even to other start systems.... Until then, SC Brood War has gone gold, and I believe is shipping this very weekend. I'd put up Blizzard's site address, but I want to avoid a direct spam. |

Deal Dude. Its not even the 20th yet . Personaly i would wait longer for a better and less buggy game. Then to get a game that needs lord knows how many patches to work right.Hothram Upravda TB

[Flamethrower online. Thermal coils warming. Critical heat levels recorded. power overload. Abort/Retry/Fail.]"Ah, captain, if I give her any more she'll blow!" Look people (or person), Firaxis said the game was due to master sometime around the 10th, and that the demo would be out between 5 and 10 days later, making the date 15th-20th. So where do people get off saying "It's the 15th, it ain't out yet, Firaxis suck for breaking their word." (or words to that affect. Yeesh, at least get your facts right. "Bridge to flamethrower room, Scorch factor 9." |

Personally, I think a demo is a really bad idea. I don't think I have ever bought a game after I have tried a demo. They always put me off. They are so crippled, they do not do a game justice and are usually really boring. |

Heh, newbies complaining about the demo after being here less than a week. Try complaining for it since July!! June for some. Listen chrisk, just have patience, take everything one day at a time, the demo will come soon, the game will come soon, you will feel a lot better. Thank you.I lost my flamethrower, sorry guys. OTOH, I think demos are good ideas. I've never been put off by the limitations in demos. I have, in some cases, been put off by deficiencies in interface or game mechanics, but never limitations. |

Just be patient. When Firaxis has a good working demo ready, they will make it available. Assuming that the report someone made about the gold CD being produced, it still takes some work to produce a demo from the working code.Trust that Brian will provide a good demo, but still save a lot for the full game. |

I have bought games because I was impressed by the demo. I have also not bought games because the demo has convinced me that it just isn't my style. (When you find the demo for Star Craft a frustrating clickfest, you know there is NO point in buying the game. Why is everything "realtime" these days? Why?)I play a fair number of demos. I treat them as a buffet sampler plate. Some things you see look good but taste awful, others don't look very apetizing and yet you find that they taste great. P.S. Gord, that floppy disk thing - cheap shot! (But one I was thinking of. Bad programmer! Bad! ) |
