I think Beyond AC are going to have it. EA definately are. There will be mirrors, don't panic! |

I'm hoping to get a copy early so that I can get it up on my site at Beyond Alpha Centauri. I tried to contact Firaxis about this very issue but they are too "BUSY" to answer any of my emails.I'll see what I can do. |

You sure you just want that copy early to put on the site? |

Centaurion, don't startle me like that. I thought you were posting that the demo was out! I almost fell out of my chair. And since I'm at work that would not have been a good thing. |

It seems that Firaxis Games has a pretty cozy relationship with GameSpot, i.e. publishes the developer notes. It would not surprise me if they get the Demo too. |

When I meant early, I just meant that I hope that I'm able to download it before everyone notices that it's up (which it isn't at this point, so please stay in your chair). I don't mind if it is up early. The GameStats servers should be able to handle it. That is what they are there for and what we are here for! Right SMACers? |

I hope there is a european location if possible. It really is a lot faster from this side of the Atlantic. |

Have they said how big the file will be? I have a cable modem so it will go quick for me but over the telephone line it could be a 2-3 hour download. If there is a way that I could pick it up and send to the slower people, let me know. I guess e-mailing the file would take the same amount of time as downloading from a web site. |

This is what Brian posted to comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategic last week:<begin quote> What we're aiming for with the demo is: a) Easy-to-download ~10meg core w/o most of frills, sound, etc. b) Parallel "bonus pack" download more sounds, frills, etc, if you have the time and the beer for a big download. That's the plan, now we'll just have to wait to next week to see what the reality is, since we're not really putting any more thought into that subject until the game masters. <end quote> As for me, I'm really happy to be getting my ADSL connection on Friday. :-) |

Lee ??? How much is Bell going to charge for ASDL ???What are your limitation ??? I'm with Videotron cable, and I have unlimited hours, as I'm always connected when my PC is turned on, but I do have a limit of about 3 gigs per month !!! Which is nothing for someone with a CD-R !!! |

$39.95/month, $14.95/month modem rental (free through March), first 4GB free, each additional 6MB billed at $0.10. Starter kit is $50 if you do it yourself. Add taxes as applicable. (Note for American readers: CAD 1.00 ~= USD 0.648)Additional details at http://www.hse.sympatico.ca 4GB is still quite a bit. On my worst months, my dial-in access has been about 100 hours for the month. If the modem was running full blast the whole time--which of course, it wasn't--that works out to about about 100 x 3600 s x 4KB/s = 1,440,000KB ~= 1.4GB. That still leaves 2.6GB for downloads--about fifty 50MB patches or demos. Every month. That said, I believe that competition between the high bandwidth carriers will eventually push the data transfer limits up and the monthly rates down.
