Since the demo is just about due, tomorrow's episode could be very eventful. What exactly do you think will happen? On one hand, I'm guessing that Firaxis hasn't had much time to work on the story this week b/c they've been so busy wrapping up SMAC. On the other hand, they may have already written the scene for Garland's death, Planet touchdown, etc. Here's my guess. Santiago will get loose, a fight will break out, stuff blows up, sparks fly and smoke fills the room, Garland screams in pain, and... ...the story will continue the next week.

The story was pre-written, though they may very well have changed it...I expect to see something next week too. I'd like to see something more on Lal. We have heard very little on him since the early stuff. |

As well as more stuff on Miriam. I sense a big episode!Santiago definitely escapes with one of the lifepods. But then, the entire crew will be unified and will go down as one unit to kill the traitor. That wouldn't work very well, considering if that happened the Spartans would have a very short and exciting life on Chiron. Something has to bring them back up to "neutral" in the eyes of the crew or I'll be annoyed, or else the Spartans better have a diplomatic penalty in the game. Who says the Spartans killed Garland? Everyone will accuse everyone else. And if they did kill him, they will have set it up to look like someone else. |

I think to get the Spartans back on neutral status, maybe a non-faction member(who gets killed before factionalization)tries to shoot Garland, but a Spartan takes a bullet for Garland, & shoots the guy. The Spartans dies, but when Garland checks out his assasins body, the assasin wakes up & kills Garland.Like it?? Your faithful & hell-bent NIMadier general, YYYH |

Re: Garland's death.I think Garland's death--whether accidental or not--will remain a mystery because I can't imagine that Firaxis would have one faction be the definite cause on his death. I remember a good thread on the old boards regarding faction extremes. Basically any faction could be seen as "evil" if they follow a certain extreme. Therefore, I don't imagine that one faction would clearly be the "bad guys". |

No, DJ, we don't. There are too many of them. Every single person here is a member of a conspiracy to ignore you. |

To ignore who? And who's this 'DJ' guy you're talking to? Is he a newcomer to the forum? I don't recall seeing any posts by him.;-) |

OK then ... all I'm going to say, is that when he returns in SMAC 2, it'll be me who has the last laugh !!! Actually, I think it would be cool if they continued the story after planetfall, they would generate alot of hits to their site on a weekly basis, and it would do wonders for their next game !!!! |

I'm predicting that Garland will go down with the ship - NO faction will have killed him. |

Excuse me... but as the state is now the ship will not go down!I think he might be trapped aboard the ship and the ship continues out into the space. I forgot... there's parts of the ship all over the planet. new version: fusion drives overheat.. eva. captain heroicly saves the lot and lauch the landing pods but dies during the attempt. right? |

I think it's actually pods that are all over the planet !!!Anyways, Garland stays behind when he realises that there are indeed survivors in the 8th cryobay (8th Faction members ... duuhh), he stages his death to make the other leaders get together and form some sort of comprimise !!! (It's all detailed in the 8th Faction thread !!!) |

It'd make me laugh if FIRAXIS kill off Garland then reveal he isn't Canadian. Bye bye 8th faction. |

Yeah, I think that he'll go down with the ship. I hope when it crashes, it massively explodes so Garland gets decimated. In order to be a martyr he's got to die a horrible, honorable death. |

Ah, I remember the old threads where we contemplated the ways Garland could die. I am quite fond of the airlock "solution". |

Yes that was quite enjoyable. Of course it would have to be a very small airlock, |

It wouldn't need to be big after he'd been through that mincer. |

What if Yang killed Garland in his sleep then goes to the bridge and does his thing calling the captain with all the faction leaders as witness : the perfect alibi !Anyhow, next episode will be great. I expect the leaders to go to garland's quarters and find him dead. With no more time to waste, they get in their pods and head for Planet. Garland's murderer will remain a mystery to spice up diplomacy during the game : every faction will accuse the other of the murder of the captain. I really like the idea that Garland dies going down with the ship. It is a heroic death that would explain the garland craters we heard about in the previews. |
