We discussed this before the collapse of the old Forums but a lot has changed since then. DJ RRebel has upped his post rate by about 1,000,000% Brother Greg is back, I'm hardly ever hear. TAS is waiting for some decent topics to get his teeth into. So who do you all want to thrash now? Personally I want to teach that old vet Roland a thing or two about TBS and maybe Tapiolan as well. Also I'd relish the chance to show Venom and YYYH who the best Spartan really is. |

A lot has changed, I no longer a Hivester or whatever you wanna call them. I'm more UoP now, since Firaxis decided to change the Labyrinth to some kinda feak show. Anyway, I wanna trash all the Spartans, except Venom, he's cool. |

Who would I like to thrash? Well, I don't really want to thrash anybody. Now, what I do plan on doing is what Imran mentioned: A CWAL-BoS game. It would be fun, especially if we can only have one of each faction in a game. Then, we'll get to see YYYH and I arguing over Sparta. |

Comments on a Firaxis vs. Forum game: Firaxis, being disadvantaged by only having 3 factions to our 4, would be allowed to choose their factions and probably take the UoP for science, the MC for money, and the Believers for pure attack (maybe the Spartans instead though, depending on who has the better warrior bonus between them). That way the MC could concentrate on cranking out enough money for everyone, the UoP could simply crank out science and then the Believers would be given all the new technological gadgets with money to buy the units and would blast off to kick our butts. And of course, the Belivers would put absolutely nothing into science after the 3 facs unify, and the the UoP nothing into money. The result would be terrifying amounts of cash and tech. But we'd still have 4 factions to their 3. I'd play the Gaians probably, and my goal would be to punish the UoP with mindworms that they are weak against, as well as being the premeir science producer. Brother Greg and/or Arnelos would play the Peacekeepers, with their democracy bonus in trade, they could act as the MC and fund my massive science research. That would leave the Hive played by Octopus and the Spartans played by MikeH/YYYH/Veno as the muscle who would try and overpower the weaker facs, like the MC. If the MC and UoP can be knocked from the alliance, than one major leg to their table is destroyed, especially the UoP. By specializing, their alliance is far stronger than it might be normally: but the loss of one member (except the Belivers, and they'd be the hardest to take out) can be catastrophic. Our more balanced side can better survive a loss; kill the Spartans and we still have the Hive for military muscle, kill the Gaians and the PK's still have science and money. But by being balanced we don't get any special advantages either. This would be a very tough match, especially considering the presumably superior playing skills of the masters. But don't count us out yet, as with sheer strength of numbers 4 factions could overpower one isolated member of the alliance and bring the Firaxis plan to a crashing close. This makes me REALLY want to play this game. How can we convince Firaxis to do it? |

Octopus: just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in... Communism, IN IT'S IDEAL FORM, would be the perfect government. However, it is my humble opinion that such a pure form of Communism will never exist. This is due to the inherent greed, mistrust, and territoriality of the Human Animal. Now as to why I don't like the Hive: It was originaly known as the Labrynth, and I was one of the main forum posters defining and expanding ideas of how it would work and a rather substantial amount of fan fiction. Then Firaxis finally posts the info in the faction bios, and they've radically altered the spin they put on it. so that by and large invalidated a lot of invested time by myself and several others, who saw it as much less Orwellian than it seems to be now. Actually my collective is something very different from anything I have seen posted before (I may have missed it) The Collective is a planned community where everyone has the freedoms to excel in their specialities, necessities are provided to everyone, luxuries are free market, education is wide spread. It tends to have a high growth rate, ecological friendly (but not as much as the greens), high morale, good research (but probably not as good as the University), and have a lot in common with the peacekeepers in the non-liberal-adulterated goals of the UN. |

TAS, assuming things have to be balanced, it sounds like you'll be very vulnerable to spies and will have low production. After all, with all that freedom nobody wil notice the occasional top-secret documents going missing. Also, since everything is being provided by the state, there doesn't seem to be much incentive to work hard. I'm guessing that your opponents will steal your Collective technologies and then put them into practival applications before you do, allowing them to have a stronger army with which to crush you. I could be wrong of course... |

CClark, I agree about vulnerability to spies. However, as luxuries are not provided by the state, just necessities, people will be movitated to work to get their luxuries, such as fancy or better clothes, better furnitures, rare foods, entertainments, etc. So Production will probably be about normal. The Collective is worried primarily about the welfare of its people, and as such deals with others with that in mind. It will tend to be friendly to anyone who wants to be friendly and not push its views on anyone. If deemed necessary to defend its people, it will conquer an hostile power just to eliminate the threat. |

(And don't ask me the origin of "frogs" as a slang term for french people. Applies to both Quebec and France.) And just in case I've inadvertantly offended Maya or DJ or anyone else, I have nothing against Quebec and Quebecers. I have an unclein Montreal and my Dad lived there for many years (and attended Sir George Williams, now Concordia). My great-grandmother had a farm outside of Montreal somewhere. I agree with DG about the HH, I used to be a Hiver, but it was called the LAbyrinth at the beginning. The Labyrinth valued science abover all else, which why I liked it to begin with. Then Firaxis chose to change the Labyrinth into the Human Hive. I was quite disappointed, instead of a faction that valued science above all else, they created some sort of police state or something similar. So I pretty much hate the HH so that I can express my anger at the lost of the LAbyrinth in a childish way. |

Thomas, I hate to tell you this, but I don't think you can be eco-friendly and have high population growth at the same time. The two are at opposite ends. The reason the Gaians have a low pop growth rate is because they are eco-friendly. As I understand it, the larger you population, the more the planet will focuse attacks on you. Population growth and production are both eco-unfriendly. The first incites the Planet to attack with mindworms et al, and the latter causes adverse responses from the fungus. (I'm not sure about the fungus. That was mentioned during the early phase, but it might have been changed so that its keyed to climate/terraforming instead). Thus, it looks like your "collective" needs some revising. Either you're eco-friendly and have a low population and low production (like Gaians), or you are eco-unfriendly and have high population and high production (like the Hive). |

I'm sure us easterners will be more than pleased to thrash you. It'll serve as some (very) small punishment for voting in Klien and letting him show Harris all those "wonderful" ideas in practice. After we've sorted out our own pecking order, what say we send a Canuck contingent over to thrash those pesky UK and Oz guys. Show them who the real force in the Commonwealth is! You should not have taken my comment that the hive is taking everything seriously seriously is I was sure you had not meant your initial comment seriously, and I'm not taking the comment including the Maya quote seriously. hmmmn .. people I would trust !!! OK, aside from my 8th Faction buddies (that just goes without saying, even if I am saying it now) !!! Roland for sure ... then also, LarryBoy and Maya, 2 ethically solid people (well, maybe not super solid, but that's at least the impression I get from their posts, even if I don't always agree with them !!!) I guess maybe there are a couple of others who I'll let someone else list !!! |

UoP-Spartan allience would be the best. The UoP make the units, the Spartans produce them. I want to thrash anyone who's got more posts than me. Oh wait, that's 99.9% of the people. No one said it was going to be easy. |
