Ratsum Fratsrum kids. We didn't have no stinking specialized parts in my day. If we wanted a hinge, we'd have to break a peice. You wanted a color other than red or white, ya had to paint it. They never knew they had it it so good... Why ... (more ranting as I look for my dentures) |

I, too, remember those days, osric. I passed the age where people stop thinking Legos are acceptable gifts right about the time the first special set were coming out. I think I did get one of the space ones, but that's about it. |

(back after building a set of Lego (r) dentures -- hey, the white ones work pretty well!)Serriously, has any heard about any robotics courses taught with legos? |

LOL! Osric, I was just thinking along those lines before I reached your message. I remember the parts as being much simpler than what I see now, but to me that inspires more creativity. I remember spending huge chunks of days designing fire trucks, police cars, and my town.I also remember having Lego wars. One time me and some friends made Lego gun. You would fit a rubber band around the Lego bullet, pull the rubber band back, attach the bullet to the back of the gun, aim, fire. I remember one Lego when flying past my ear and put a hole in the curtain behind me! My Lego SMAC soldiers will have plenty of Lego guns mind you. If one of you guys imports some Lego bitmaps and use them as custom units during a game I swear I'll die laughing. |

Me and my sister build Lego forts and catapults to go to war. It was quite a bit of engineering to build a catapults with a lot of fire power that did not break when used.Requesting a Commission as General of Lego forces on Alpha Centauri, with that $1000s of dollars of part I've got the supplies ready. |

I used to LOVE legos... But now they really suck, the pieces are just to big and special for a person to *really* use his imagination. |

Actually, I'll admit buying a few of the newer sets (money than sense -- and was unmarried at the time). Really cool model of the space shuttle. But it was a good excercise to make do with what we had -- not sure what it's taught me for my adult years, but it was fun learning. Our Lego wars consisted of building vehicles with little space men in them and rolling them into each other from across the living room. Whoever's car stayed intact won. Some of the new parts wouldn't hold up to that. Certainly not to putting holes in curtains, WOW! |

Oh I knew what the real world was. I had an exact replica of it in my Lego town. BTW, I do remember stepping on Legos. In fact I think I still have eight small, close-together holes in my foot. |

Hey Legoean, I'm on to you...You're one of those new "Mindstorms" sets that has acheived sentience, aren't you? About the overspecialization of Legos: there are sets available still called "Lego Freestyle" that are all just the old basic pieces. personally, I am a believer in the fusion of lots of old basic peices with some new specialized stuff for truely monstous creations..... Star Wars Legos !?!?!?!? I'll have to look into that... The DG, still road-trippin'... "Gee, if we're in Idaho like you say, then why are all the street signs in Latvian?" |

You should scatter Legos around your cities to catch incoming spies. Only the best-trained spies can avoid Legos or not cry out when they step on one. |

Am I the only one who made stop-motion movies with legos? Did this one five minute epic with a dragon and some knights. Had a buddy hold the dragon in the air with strings so that it could fly. Couldn't think of a good way to get it to breath fire, though. The secret to still being able to play with lego is to give sets as birthday and christmas gifts that are slightly too dificult for the younger sibling or cousin in question. They invariably ask you to help them assemble it. |
