Due to popular demand, we shall be known from now on as Finlandia (resemblance to a popular vodka brand =) is purely coincidental)!
We are surely the most promising faction on this formum, with ca. 5.000.000 potential members! Again, if you think that Finland rocks, JOIN!
I thought 23 to be a cool number and asked Sid to reserve it for us. Anyone who disagrees may feel free to contact Mr. Meier.
Now, please don't take up too much of his scarce spare time, since he is presently occupied with the development of SMAC II.
Pasi shall be Head of the Environmental Section and is in charge of Gaian relations.
Jay is the overall Commander of Finlandia's Ilmavoimat.
Please, if you can think of anything about Finland, alcoholic beverages, military/history or Russia jokes (for the sake of keeping this thread going), POST!

Well, guess it all comes down to this now. My pride makes me answer the challenge that I believe was thrown by Finns. I'm now forming 1st Preobrazhenskiy Russian Guard faction. Although there aren't a lot of Russians who will play this game, but I hope there will be enough to stand up and battle for the Motherland once again! Although I will not lower my self (like Tom did) saying that Finns suck, I will say that we are "displeased" with agressive Finnish politics against the peacefull Russia. So in that case, when SMAC will come out, the challenge will be answered to the FULL measure. E-mail me if you want to join the elite Guards of Mother Russia.

Saying that Russians suck is, I agree, quite provocative.
Like I said in my original post for this thread, IMHO "Russians suck!" only to keep the thread active, and it seems working ;-)
But, as you know, our nations share partly a common history, and nation's history reflects itself to opininons. I'm not saying that it is right or wrong, I'm only saying that it is a fact. From this point of view, it is not a surprise that Finns still might have some negative attitudes toward Russians.
Actually, We (Finlandia) need some edge to our international politics, and because Swedes are no match for us (!, no offence =)), we concentrate to our dear eastern neighbour...

Anyway, I salut you as a Representative of the 1st Preobrazhenskiy Russian Guard faction!

Altough I might be stepping on toes of Grosshaus, the Head of Propaganda Section, I would like to give all the members some mre or less known facts to boast about, when having a nice chat with other factions..
- Finland(ia!) has more mobile phones per capita than any other country. In August, 1998, the figure reached 50.1 mobile phones per 100 inhabitants, according to the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
- In Internet connections per capita Finland(ia!) again takes first place: 88 connections per 1,000 inhabitants.
- Finland(ia!) is the only country (=faction) in the world in which all the universities are linked in a high-speed data network. Finland(ia)'s Funet network operates at a speed of 155 megabits per second.
- UNICEF statistics published in 1997 make Finland(ia)'s infant mortality rate of four deaths of babies under the age of one year for every 1,000 births, the lowest in the world.
- The archipelago off south-west Finland is the biggest in the world, measured by the number of islands in it - more than 20,000.

- A nation with 1.5 million saunas:
I once took three American journalists to a sauna in a big hotel. The men were a little bit shy so we decided they could keep their swimming trunks on. The negotiations with Gaian representatives was warm, but according to our embassador citizens seem to have some negative assumptions about Finns. I propose that Propaganda Section prepares some massive positive info campaign in Gaia to improve our relations.
During the same negotiations an agreement was reached that Gaians provide us high-tech information about Geological Measurement Equipment in exchange for assisting Gaian forest industry in their Waste Control Technology Program with our superior knowledge on this section.
This new high tech measurement equipment can be used to search (and find) highly scarce minerals needed in the super secret military (defence) project "Bomerang". How does that sound, Jay ;-)

propably biased me against Russians in
general, which is unfair allright.
So I'd like to apologize to all the Russians out there who don't approve of war, genocide and nukes.
