Uhh. i know that they don't always have the best news, but www.ebworld.com, said that the game wasn't coming out till feb 3.
also, they have been working on the demo for how long? could we atleast download a version from a year ago to keep us busy?

The demo is supposed to be out on 20th December. As for the actual release date I have no idea.

No, the dreaming is making me go insane from this mad waiting for the demo.
Feb 3 release dat is good for me. I was probably gonna get it in February, probably, anyway. I just hope Firaxis doesn't push the game into the spring! That would piss me off.

I sure hope so. We're expecting our first kid in March, and when he shows up, I'll be lucky to have time to go to the bathroom, let alone play games. I've been counting on SMAC showing up before then, so that I might actually get a chance to put it through its paces.

www.beyondac.com also says Febuary 3. At this point it doesn't make any difference to me (I get new games at Christmas and on my birthday in August.)

the Software in Willowbrook mall(houston) ect "Delisted" the game, however that should change again somtime this week.

Brian Reynolds posted today On Usenet, in the strategy games ng, that the demo will be out this month, about 12/20, but the game has been pushed back to early to mid-Feb. due to manual translations by Origin . firaxis will meet its announced dates to go gold, but the game won't make January due to publisher issues.
The "scheduled master date" (don't know how that varies from "going gold" if at all, he says is 12/10, or this Thursday. The demo will be released five days later, so it could be as early as the 15th. He seems to say it'll be on EA servers.
When the demo is out Firaxis will lift the gag order on the beta testers as well, and allow them to post.
This info is a thread titled "SMAC" on comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.straegic
In a different thread titled "SMAC was Re: From the Trenches: Why Games Ar eLate PartII he reports the Frb. ship date. He also ads that multiplay is in and does work well.

Okay, that was my first post. I registered just to make it. I really can spell; just not used to that little tiny window you have to type in!
The info is all correct even if the spelling is weak. Looks like Dec. 15-20 for the demo for sure.

Thanks everyone for your well-wishes. From Brian's recent postings, it looks like I'll indeed have a few weeks before the Great Decanting to enjoy SMAC. After that, well... I'll have the memory of SMAC to keep me going through all those late night feedings and diaper changings. :-)

I can truly empathize. My wife is expecting in the end of January. So, it looks like I will definitely be challenged to make time to play SMAC when it ships. Perhaps I can play late at night when sleep is hard to come by anyway... we'll see...

Thanks for the information. I am looking forward the Beta Testers' comments almost as much as the Demo itself (since they will cover the entire game).
How can we get Brian, et al. to post here? We have tried almost everything accept taking hostages. )-:
