Perhaps there should be one unique tech for each faction that only that specific faction can research. Other factions can trade or conquer it, but not research it. This adds a special interactive element. If you want that tech, you HAVE to deal with the enemy. The realworld rationale for this is that these techs are in directions of research that the other factions wouldn't think to pursue. The particular philosophy of the faction led them to look in this direction.

Hmm, Rang these are some great idea. Where have you been? Like you can have capitalization only for Morgan Industries; Environmentalism only for Gaians, etc.Imran Siddiqui Nobody |

I've wondered if there will be something like this. In teh faction bios there are the "future works" at the bottom. Do we know if those are just book titles that the factio leader writes in their spare time and have no bearing on the game, or are they faction-specific Special Projects?I think it would be a good feature to have. That was one thing I liked about MOO2, that you couldn't get all the tech without dealing with your opponents (unless you were Creative). |

I had always assumed that there where a few Generic Wonders everyone could get, and also some faction specific that one that faction could get. Based on the info on the Faction section of the www site. Now how they are going to allow custom factions to work is the intersting asspect for me . Hothram Upravda TB

I'm going to have to disagree on this idea. It makes designing balanced custim facs tougher and advantages like this mine as well be a faction ability that doesn't show itself until you have the right amount of technology. |

Well, to retain balance, the exclusive techs should be interesting, but not an overwhelming advantage. And the exclusive techs would have to be VERY esoteric to maintain the rationale that other factions won't think to research in this direction. Also, "Capitalism" is well known from Earth, so it can't be an exclusive tech. How about PDC (personal digital counselor/chaplain) for the Believers? This tech would be after Digital Sentience, and would lower unrest levels, reflecting happier people. |

I think that is a great idea, since it makes it even more interesting to play the game with another faction. If you have different tech trees (at least in parts) then there could grow new tactics for each faction, beside the one that will exist because of the different advantages. And you know what: Trading technologies would then be really interesting. You have to trade a technology, you cannot research it.
