Author Topic:   NEW THEORY, The limit for wierdness as the total number of posts. . .

THE GRAND THEORY OF THE SMAC BOARDS:

X axis: total number of posts
Y axis: wierdness

The function of wierdness as the total number of posts increases is an always increasing curve.

Given current trends, it is a very high order power function that has a limit of infinity (of wierdness) at posts=10,000

So as the number of posts aproahes 10,000, the total wierdness remanes fairly constant until you get close enough (past 9,200 posts or so) to 10,000 posts that wierness then skyrockets exponentially (well, bad term, but you get the concept).

I will not be surprised if this thread is either doubled, my post is doubled, or this thread has no aparent line or title when someone is looking at the boars (all events which have mulitplied in the past 2 days).

Arnelos, actually, it's just older threads that do that (ones from over 5 days ago or so) ... most new ones don't do that !!!

It was just you pressing submit post twice because the server connection was painfully slow !!!

BTW ??? What happens when the FIR-Axis approaches 1998Dec20th ???

I for one have not been looking at *any* boars for the past several days. Really, I don't know where you get your ideas from. ;-)

LOL .. actually, I saw the movie Anaconda today (It's really not very good at all ... even for a B-movie), and there was a wild boar in it !!! LOL

I don't remember a wild boar... not that I make any great effort to remember that movie, mind you... =)

It was early in the movie, when the guy and girl go off the ship at night (their dumbness must have approached infinity too) to get some sound samples for the film !!!

They are about to get giggy with it, when they are attacked by a wild boar !!!

Anyways, it wasn't anything special, so don't force yourself to remember !!!

If you apply your theory to Posters instead of threads I think you have hit on something really useful.

The Three Laws of Wierdness(hereafter refered to as Wigosity):
1) Wigosity tends to flow from areas of high Wigosity(e.g. the I club) to areas of low Wigosity(e.g. on topic threads).
2) Wigosity tends toward the maximum value allowed for the system.
3) As the system becomes larger(in our case, C = (The number of posters) * (The number of posts) * (The number of threads))the maximum Wigosity possible increases exponentially, in the form e**(S * C) where C is the complexity of the system and S is the Spoe constant of Wigness.

Are you trying to imply that the more posts one has, the wierder you get? What happens when you approach infinte wierdness?

If I were DJ, I'd be worried. I mean, look at TAS and the other old guard with high post counts. They've all but disappeared.

Actually, TAS was kind of an exception to the wierdness rule. Unless you take his penchant for staying on topic as wierd.

How do smilies fit in?

CClark: Well, infinite weirdness is infinite posts, and even the wackiest of us all cant achieve that. If we make it that

Weird factor = number of posts^number of posts, you get:

1post=1weird
2posts=4weird
3posts=27weird
4posts=256weird
5posts=3125weird

here is when it gets fun...

56posts=79164324860000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000weird

So watch out everyone, we are faling toward madness!!!

TOAODS...bane of FS and Laval...

SPACES, DarkStar? Or at least Exponential notation? The whole thread is now hard to read, even on 800x600.

I propose that on-topic posts increase wigosity at a rate only 1/10 that of off-topic ones. That's how TAS survived early on, and also things like the CoFH provide a good release of wigosity that might otherwise be spent on off topic threads.

Now you've done it, Snowfire. Bringing in Wig sinks. They attract the Wigs Boson(the mediating particle of the Wig field -- the source of all that is Wiggy) like mad. And since we know from the first law of Wigodynamics that Wig flows from regions of high Wigosity to those with low, the few remaining examples of the anti-Wigs Boson here are doomed(DOOOOMED I TELL YOU!), and indeed these forums as a whole, to an extremely Wigosterous future.

I propose to write a grant that will fund the new Center (Centre) of Wigosity Studies for the IIIS.
After all, it is SMACA related, isn't it?
I believe that Spoe should be its director.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.
Weirdness is unlimited, random, chaotic, non-definable and
non-predictable by language or mathematics!

You see a blank thread line if someone is posting in a thread as you load the thread list.

Arnelos: You would be surprised, I am "only" Canadian, as USers use to think, but, I KNOW where you fished out that remark. It was in "The PTA Disbands" episode, if I'm right. But I won't break the fun for everyone else who wonders where it comes from.

TOAODS...TSF!!! Guess this one out...

So if the madness increases while you try to understand the high number of your own posts, then that means that i'm SAFE!!!
MWAHAHAHA!!!

Hint where quote came from (some context to the quote):

"Lisa. . ." (voice trailing off, sounding disapointed), "your perpetual motion machine doesn't work. . .*yelling:* "IN THIS HOUSE WE OBEY THE SECOND LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS!"
(at least that's what I remember)
