I want to wish SMACers around the world a happy Thanksgiving Day. This is a national holiday in the U.S. given towards the contemplation of the good things in our lives; our families, our friends, our communities and all of our good fortunes. It is one of my good fortunes to share this forum with all of you.I especially want to thank the staff of Firaxis for hosting and supporting this site as best as they are able. This site has given us a lot of pleasure and I have not seen anything quite like it anywhere else. You have my permission to take the day off. I foresee that by this time next year we will all be able to give thanks to a new gaming classic. Of course, if it is too good we might quit our jobs, drop out of school, and loose our family and friends. That would be bad, wouldn't it?

Ditto, Jsorense. You took the words right out of my mouth...well, not literally (awful mental image ).Thanks to Firaxis, the forum, and everyone on it! (Isn't it kind of weird that the American way of giving thanks is by killing something? Awful lot of dead turkeys around this time of year. It's too bad I'm a vegetarian...slobber, slobber). |

Hmmm, if Ben franklin had succeded in making Turkeys our national bird, then we'd all be eating bald eagle right now! Good thing they didn't pick the turkey! The world would ridicule us worse than they already do!! Anyway, thank you for these blessed forums o great FIRAXIS. This has been one of the high points of my life. Well, maybe not, but it's been fun! Damn, I hate Thanksgiving, I have to spend it with my weirdo family. Not just my mom, dad & the such, but my whole damn psycho family!!! That means Aunt Judy, Cousin Donnie, Uncle Ronald!!! Argghh, I may just disappear somewhere, so my damn mom won't even atempt to make me go. Well, there are some woods nearby.....I'm gonna go make some sadnwhiches now!!! Your faithful & hell-bent NIMadier general, YYYH |

I appreciate the sentiment, jsorense, but feel compelled to point out that it's not really necessary to wish the whole world a happy thanksgiving since the US is the only country in the world that celebrates it at this time of year... I don't know offhand if Mexico has it or not, but if it doesn't, then I believe Canada may be the only other country that celebrates it at all, and we have ours in October. (Wishing all Americans a happy Thanksgiving, and everyone else a Happy Thursday...

Thanksgiving: The day set aside for rest before Christmas shopping season begins. :PSeriously, though, I'd have to say these forums are one of the things I'd have to be thankful for. Always an interesting discussion of some sort or other going on. |

tOFiGI-Thanksgivingis when we celebrate how the American Indians were really nice to us and then we were so bitchy to them(murder, displacement, et. al.) Christmas? I thought you were an atheist. |

AUH20, Thanksgiving is actually a celebration of the harvest - that's why Canada celebrates a month earlier than you guys in the States. We have a shorter growing season so our harvest is earlier in the year. |

Speaking of atheists celebrating X-Mas, as a kid, I never believed in God, but I believed in Santa !!! I never thought of it like that !!! Anyways, because of the commercialization of X-Mas, in all reality, it has transended religion .. not to say it doesn't represent more for religious people ... but X-Mas has become more of an international event !!! The only people I know who really don't celebrate X-Mas are Jewish people, and that's more because the have Hanuka (Sp) at virtually the same time frame that it would almost conflict !!! |
