I have a problem in Civ2. One I am looking for suggestions. Two I would like to know if there has been any changes made in Smac along these lines.Problem. I put a spy in every one of my cities in an attempt to keep rival nations from stealing tech. This worked, but now the game is just poisoning me, and destrying all of my cities. It seems to me that if I have a spy defending the city that it should take and active role in defending it from all types of espioge. (Ie not just tech) Comments welcome.

As far as I know, the counter espionage doesn't work always. Maybe it is easier for a spy to poison the supplies than to steal technology. I just sometimes ask myself how the Opponent is so sure about my units in the City.Gilgamesch |

I didn't think spies had an effect agaist other spies !!!You need to have a Democracy .. there is no corruption in a democracy !!! Get a court house also !!! Set up fortification outside your cities so they are defended well !!! |

According to the civ2 book they help to counter, other spies stealing tech. I wish they could help in other areas too. |

I think they counter poisoning as well. The formula is:diplomat: 20 % chance of countering spy: 40 % veteran spy: 60 % If you have, for example, two veteran spies, the formula is: (40 % chance of success)^2=16 %. So you never reach 100 % security. And stealing a certain tech increases the risk of being caught - maybe that's where the diffrence you observe stems from. |

I think you guys are looking a little too deep ... the 20,40,60% was for steeling plans I think !!! Where oh where is my bloody Civ2 manual ???If it was your way, wouldn't it also depend on what type of unit was doing the espionage itself ??? (Dip, spy or vspy) |
