I find this topic quite silly... what is the point of asking which faction to join? I thought that questions of allegiance should be decided by each person using their own judgement...I guess it's time to start up a Constitutional Anarchy. :P -synthetic |

I think you should join the aliens that don't show up until right before the game ends and have no influence on the game whatsoever. |

I will decide for myself but I'm giving everybody here the chance to tell me what makes their faction the best |

It's not a matter of what we think. We all have different personalities, & choose our factions from our tastes. Like me, I love history, especially the wars. I'm a warlike guy, so I pick the Spartans. From your name, I assume you're a man named Ian, & your a religious type, so maybe the Lord's Believers would fit you best. It all depends on taste is what I'm trying to say, not what other people tell you is the best(even though a new Spartan couldn't hurt ). If you like science, go with the UoP, if you're a commie, join the Human Hive, if you're fighting for the future of humanity go with the Peacekeepers! But, if you're looking to survive, join the Spartans!!(just had to get a bit of propoganda in there )Your faithful & hell-bent NIMadier general, YYYH |

Yeah, ChristIan. You have to choose what you like best. I'm known for being a supercapitalist, so I like Morgan Industries. If you're looking for a lot of money, so much that you can buy off the other factions, join the Morgan Industries Imran Siddiqui Patriot |

If you like the Borg, mind control, and the idea of assimilating all the other factions, join the Human Hive. Hive bonuses: increased population growth, free base defense. |

Ok, first of all, if you wanted a barrage of posts from various factions members, asking the question you did was the perfect way to bring that about :-).Now, about the Peacekeepers: PROS: Value system focused on liberty and humanism. Belief in Conciliation and Cooperation between states insures maximum potentials for development. Since other states may feel much less threatened by the Peacekeepers, this allows us to maximize our development potential. If this were not enough, the various previews have hinted that the Peacekeepers will have inherent development advantages that make it highly advantageous to concentrate on peaceful development and attmept to keep war at bay. Do not be fooled, the Peacekeepers do have military and, as a player, you will develop that military for the purposes of spreading the ideals of the Peacekeepers (liberty and humanism). Other factions, in some regard or another, all diminish the place of the individual human and human dignity. The Peacekeepers value humans, their individuality, their rights, their beliefs, and their dignity above any other faction. The greatest and most important value of the Peacekeepers is pluralism, which allows them to accomidate people of varying ideological persuaions, something the other factions will find highly difficult. In game play, the Peacekeepers' diplomatic strengths and beliefs in conciliation will make peace more likely when dealing with the Peacekeepers. This, in turn, is advantageous to the peacekeepers, who benifit most when developing in peacetime. |

Enviromentalist? Join the gaians. They can use native life for troops, and are better at interacting peacefully with the Chiron enviroment, but suffer in combat from low moraleBusinessman? Join Morgan industries. they get economic bonuses, and get more out of trade treaties, but their population is spoiled and demands luxuries, and they can be prone to rioting. Diplomat? Join The Peacekeepers. they have added weight in diplomatic affairs, and their cities can reach higher populations than any other faction, but they are ineficient in industry. Holy Man? Join the Believers. They are imune to spies and have (possibly) an x3 on attack, but due to their extremist beliefs, they are hindered in research and do not relate well with native life. Technologist? Join the UoP. They get massive tech bonuses, but are prone to civil unrest and can be infiltrated by spies easily. Insect? Join the Hive. They get bonuses to expansion and get built in city defenses, but they have a slow economy and tend to be a bit, well, frikkin weird. Soldier? Join the Spartans. They get troop morale and (possibly) training bonuses, but they have a slow economy due to their war-machine. |

Concerning opposing factions (one by one):Hive: Ok, you have a modicum of efficiency, but no human individuality, human dignity is trampled all over, and human liberty is meaningless. Spartan: Concentrate on the values which caused the tragic fall of civilization on Earth. The Spartans are so blinded by their perceived view of self-survival that they do not see the joint plight of the entire crew of the UNITY and how it would be more highly benificial to work with others. This factions is likely to find itself the most isolated and warlike, which is detrimental to development and to the search for stability and alliances. Morgan: They Morganite's concentration on human individuality is comendable, but their ignorance toward human dignity and, in some cases, human liberty, is deplorable. In addition, the Morganites may find themselves the enemy of many a faction due to a joint mistrust and hatred for their methods. The Morganites, perhaps even more than the Spartans, due to the sheer distrust for this faction, are likely to be isolated and vulnerable when stability is lost. Believer: As Einstein said, "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind." The Believers, in their mad pursuit of Christian fundamentalist beliefs will quickly fall behind the factions due to their lack of focus on the real dilemnas faced by humanity on Chiron and the scientific solutions required, for which the Believers are poorly trained and where their beliefs conflict with open scientific inquiry. The Believers subjugate human dignity, human liberty, and, in some cases, human individuality, to the concept of their deity. UofP: Repeat the quote from above. As Carl Sagan argued in one of his last books, "The Demon Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark", science can be a prime instrument for good in the world. However, science can do immesurable harm as well if not guided. The UofP seems to have a belief in understanding and bringing about areas of science that could, naturaly, result in dangerous pandora's boxes. The UofP's pursuit of truth is commendable, but the fruits of their labor require a responsive and comprehensive system of humanist ethics that only the Peacekeepers posess. Gaians: The Gaians, by their insistance upon protecting the natural environment of Chiron against human development, are hampering their own development. The Gaians will rely on the natural lifeforms of Chiron for protection and will, in turn, protect them. However, as the development of the other factions increases, and the world becomes more terriformed for human development, humans will gain the upper hand. In addition, the advance of science and weaponry by the other factions will surpass the powers the Gaians have to offer. On a societal basis, the Gaians to some respect only partially respect each of the three parts of humanist ethics: human individuality, human dignity, and human liberty. Their fanaticism is blind and dangerous to their own development. |

Before you get the wrong idea about the Hive, I suggest you read the "Hivespeak" thread. If you want to see the pathetic attempts of the Detractors to mislead you into believing that any other faction is better than the Hive, check out "Faction Progaganda" and "The Spartan Problem". Naturally, all of the arguments of the Detractors are completely without merit, as the rebuttals of the glorious Hive clearly show .

What aspects of CIVII annoyed/interested you more? If you loved science and hated war, go for UoP. If you thought democracy was the way, and you always did the space race, go for the PKs. If you loved conquest over all else, go for the Spartans. If you found being nice annoying, and liked to earn lots of money, go for Morgan. If you found angry people annoying, go for The Believers. If you thought CIVII was flawed because no-one thought about nature, go for the Gaians. Finally, if you liked to use spies a lot, thought there was far too much dalting and boring discussion in a democracy, go for the hive. you know it makes sense. |
