Firaxis should port AC to Linux. It is the fastest growing OS and the most stable. Firaxis would make a ton of money on the first commercial Linux game.

Yeah I have a lot of friends who would be wery happy if this happened.
It also wouldn't hurt if they ported it for Mac.

I was said before that both might happen, but all that will depend on the success of the Windows version!!!

I know it doesn't make any sense, (life rarely does), but if you want SMAC for Linux, you should buy it for Windows !!!

You are right in that it will successfull, but that isn't a decision made by Firaxis anyways ... it's made by EA the SMAC distributor!!! Or is the term publisher ??? Regardless .. I think you know what I mean!!!

Well, I don't want to rain on anybody's parade, but don't hold your breath for a Linux port. The market share is so small that Firaxis/EA probably wouldn't make their money back on the work they needed to put in to do the port. You may think Linux is technically superior to the different flavors of Windows, but technical superiority doesn't sell products. Market share does.

Conversely, nobody wants to switch to Linux because there aren't any good games made for it...

Vicious circle, isn't it?

Its not just that the computer market share is small, its just that the computers that usually run unix (and all its children) aren't the machines that a gaming company would be targeting.

But, if they did port it to linux, I'm sure that every person who had linux ('cept those using it solely as a server) would buy it!

Even if EA doesn't a do a full port, maybe they could help out the wine people.

If they would port it to Linux, I would install Linux on my home machine.
I'd love to get away from Microsoft's ongoing bugs/patch process....
