While I agree with Imran here, i'll be a bit more polite. ;-)Civ 2 is a great game, but be forewarned - it is addictive and will consume your life. a fair trade for the power and the automatic booting to a higher plane. |

I would pay $80 bucks for the game if that was the price, but at $29( the last price I saw on it) it is a steal. |

Definately. I'm into Roleplaying games, and strategy games myself (both RTS and turn based).CIV II is the best strategy game in existance right now, IMHO. It will only be bettered by SMAC, and defiled by C:CTP. Brother Greg Woodstock, Peacekeeper, Defender of the Sacred NIM, Chevalier of the order of Azugal, Hammer of the Spartans. |

I personally think the original is better, but I got Civ2 in a package deal (with Magic and X-com Apocalypse) for 29 which is about $55. Get it and practise for SMAC. |

Do yourself a favour, BUY Civ II and the rast of your life is planned Be warned, I spent 11 months in military playing Civilization and when I got out, the first thing I did was to buy Civ II. (OK, after the hangover) |

C:CTP = Civilization:Call to power !!! A new version of the same game !!!Trev .. actually, wether you get the game or not entirely depends on your budget and your free time .. personaly, in my opinion, it' the best game ever !!! But I probably would wait myself for the demo of SMAC, only because I don't have much extra time, and it's only a month away !!! On the other hand, if you have some spare time to kill, then you must get Civ2 !!! I actually never got to play Civ 1, but CIV 2 is nothing short of spectcular !!! I've seen a stratagy classics pack in stores here in Canada recently with Civ1 and railroad tycoons (Another Sid game) .. together with 6 other decent strat games, all for the price of one normal game (about $50 canadian) .. if you find that pack, I recomend it highly !!! Anyways, good luck getting unhooked once you start !! Let us know how it was !!! |

Lowly software store clerk suggests: Don't buy civ 2 right now, wait a few days (I hope ) and get the Civ 2 gold, its the original civ 2 with multiplayer support along with both expansions; conflicts in civilization (historical scenarios) and fantastic worlds (has a great editing features) It sould run about 50.00 and is well worth it. Also, Civilization Call to Power is not the new version of the game. It's activisions take on the idea and has nothing to do with Sid Meier. Microprose is puttimg out new version of Civ2 called test of time, which as I understand it is pretty much civ 3 with a slightly different interface, animated units, better graphics....etc. I heard that it will also have a full game based on the Midguard scenario for civ2 fantastic worlds, which for anyone whos been waiting for a MOM2 this is as close as youll get for a while. Civ2 ToT doesn't have anything to do with Sid either since he left Microprose, but I think it will be better than CTP. |

Hmmm, 20 responses so far, not counting DHE's (get your head out of that glue bin, dude! ), and everyone goes: What are you waiting for! How's that for unanimousity!Trev, are you still there? And if you are, have you indeed bought the game? And if you have, how do you like it? Remember to get the latest patch. My CD is version 1.10 and the latest patch is like 2.47 or something. On the other hand, if you haven't bought - or at least played - the game (or didn't like it), you have no business in this forum, since you are a hopeless ignorant and will never be able to appreciate (even comprehend) the beauty of the upcoming game of games: SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! SMAC! (I have to stop now, there's a puddle of drool seeping through my keyboard, threatening to shortcircuit it) |

My suggestion is to get both CIV II and SMAC. SMAC is sort of a continuation of CIV II.To date there is absolutely, hands down, no greater strategy game on the market then CIV II. WAS |

To sum up what we've said to every single newbie that has strolled in here and asked "Ummm, hey, do you guys think I should buy this civ 2 thing?"Leave us alone. Cant you see that I am trying to hastily build a strike force of 6 Dragoons to try and take the Spanish capital? Sheeshh! Now, back to my conquest of Southern Europe! |

As mentioned here, if you're interested in Civ II (and you should be :-), the best thing to do would be to wait until Microprose ships "Civ II Multiplayer Gold", a 32-bit version of the original with multiplayer support and both scenario packs thrown in for good measure. The only problem with Civ II Gold is that it has been delayed so many times that one wonders whether it will ever ship! |

LOL .. when I called Microproses distributer to see what was going on with CIV2:Gold Multi, for 3 months straight they told me next month (last time I bothered was 2-3 months ago) ... and then the final time I called they said they might not even release because of all the buy-outs and stuff !!! Can you beleive they took pre-orders on a product that they don't know 100% will even be released ??? What total crap !!! I won't support them ever again !!! |

Hell, *I* am going to buy Civ2 Gold, and I already bought Civ2 twice (lost the CD from the first one years ago) and each expansion pack as well. DEFINITELY get Civ 2, though I'll chime in with the others urging you to wait for the Gold version. |
