There has been a lot of bad press about the Spartans, hey I know I helped perpetuate it. I'm just here to set the record straight.
We don't like war for war's sake. That would be foolish. We just want to survive and sometimes that means we have to take control of things. If people leave us alone then we will leave them alone. We just want our own space and enough resources to thrive on the new planet.
Of course if we are threatened we will be forced to respond with force. A swift decisive strike to protect our interests. This doesn't mean we can't work together. There will be ventures which benefit more than one faction that may be better pursued as a team. Let's face it it's much nicer to have friendly neighbours.
If we feel that one faction is becoming too powerful and is posing a threat to global stability we may also be forced to intervene on the side of the weaker faction. If one faction takes control that would be bad so we will strive to keep all the factions slightly weaker than us whilst not gaining so much power that we become a target for all the other factions.
In sort we will aim to be the most influential Faction but not a superpower. We will be subversive, sneaky and underhand but who won't? All you need to know is that the Spartan military is the best and messing with us is an extremely unhealthy thing to do. It lowers your life expectancy dramatically.
Have a nice day, and remember the strong will survive and sometimes the weak need to be sacrificed to achieve that goal.

Congradulations, the Spartans have just completed Machiavelli 101. Everyone knows that the weak band together to kill the strong to make a balance of power! Nothing revolutionary there! But you DO kill innocent engineers and endanger the crew's safety! How does that promulgate your survival, eh, if the ship had to wait another 76 years for another pass at AC when most of your members are irretrievable woken up?

And when your faction is the world's strongest do you just kill of the waeker ones to maintain a ballance or do you give them guns and troops to fight against you? You are not the overlord that sees who survives and who does not.

That's the point we don't care about the rest of the crew. We are happy to sacrifice them and just break off a bit of the ship for ourselves to land on the planet.
There's always a chance this plan won't work so we will bypass it and make our own way to Chiron.

Maybe you don't understand: without the rest of the crew you are DEAD. How are you going to break off a piece of the Unity, seal it properly, and land not crasjh land Chiron? Have fun...

You know, Mike H II, when I get SMAC, I plan to start off playing the Hive. If my neighbors are the Spartans, I am going right after them, right out, all out, any way I can, crush them. Santiago's head will be in Yang's rogue gallery!!
Next, I would have all the survivors and prisoners work the colonies doing the grunt work all day long. If they died working, so be it!!

As a matter of fact, one of the first things I would do to defeat the Spartan's would be to establish a super network of spies to infiltrate and sabotage and gain intelligence in order to squash the worms!

Remember the Gulf war? That's what happens when massed ill trained troops fight well trained well armed troops. Try your best hivers we'll cut down those brainwashed soldiers as fast as you can send them. Ever seen the film Zulu? Same thing.

MikeHII: Let the battle of the spies begin!! The Hive will do as programmed, they will become fanatics of Santiago with the heart of Yang! For every hovertank created, two will come out of the efficient Hive cities.
We will capture Santiago and have her executed on planetwide video for all to see! The Hive will gain its well-over due respect!

Roland, your thinking like a Morganite!! Its,....its shocking! I will sale the transmission rights to the planets highest bidder; heck, I will sale Santiago to the planets highest bidder! So says Morgan.
No, this execution is long and torturous with commercials. I figure some type of mindworm execution in some type of torture chamber would be exciting. If she beats one mindworm, I will just send in another. Um.. maybe have some of the latest AC species test there abilities on her.....now, theres a thought.

Heck, we could probably "rule" a continent by the time we sale the B**** away! My only concern is that somewhere, somehow, some sympathetic fanatic follower of hers will break her out and here we go again. You know, we could plan the rescue with some type of fanatic special forces, rescue her, sale her again and make the same money all over!
What do you think?
Ah, the commercials. I can see it now, vacation plans, stop off at the local gun/shredder shop buy it for the same hunt, etc. The Santiago Model. Fires rounds up to a 1000 per/sec, even launches semi nuclear weapons....

Interesting, I just started a thread about Faction Propaganda then checked back here and you are already at it.
Sparta will have some of the best spies on the planet. I hope you all remember that when you are plotting. We may need to fight to finance our war machine but we can be as sneaky as a Morganite if need be.
