It's not quite there on the west coast yet. But it's very close. How far out do you suppose we need to be before switching to a medium or short-range patch?

That's too bad. Could be your browser. Try Netscape 4.5. |

I'm not too familiar with AOL. But I was under the impression that they allow you to use third party browsers with their software. Oh, and congrats on the member status. I'm working on mine as well. Only 8 more now. |

Next Friday at about 5 pm est. and then I suspect that Firaxis' Servers will die from the load. |

Hopefully they've been able to arrange for some mirror sites for the demo. Even so I doubt transfer rates will break 10k next Friday around 5 no matter what connection you have. Antiam ps. I don't like this reregistering thing. All 5 of my posts over that last 4 months... |

Quick correction... The counter will hit zero Saturday night, midnight. If you change your system time to that you can see it hit zero early. Unfortunately it's about as exciting as the New Years ball.Antiam |

You mean the counter gose by you own time. I thought the counter was only for ET time (-5 GMT). I've got to totaly re calcualte this. Acoring to my old estimates it will come out on 1500hrs, 16 Nov 1998. (I'm at +10 GMT). |

Ok, I just did some maths and figured out that I depends on which time zone you are in. So the New Zelanders will get it first, the the eastern Australia, Japan and so on. So the last people to get the demo will be the people furthest west. At least thats what the counter says. But i dont' see how they can restrict downloading to only a certain piece of the world. |

Obviously, they will not post the demo for each time zone separately, so I would guess that the EST zone would be the closest (that is where Firaxis is located). Also, don't be surprised if it doesn't appear at exactly the right time. They might post it a little early so the transition is made before the stampede. That is what occured with the new web site back in the summer, after all, despite their specific 'launch' date. |

And then there is the possibility that they will postpone the demo again if it isn't ready.Thankfully it seems like some companies are finally coming to the realization that people don't like getting buggy software. Heavy Gear 2 delayed their much-hyped demo because they felt it wasn't ready. Personally, I think the demo will be out when it is ready. It's easy enough to fudge the timer; Firaxis has done it once already. (Sorry to rain on the parade, just felt like pointing out how futile all the guessing is.) |

Chill, people, or you'll get a hemorrhage at 6 PM friday if it haven't arrived yet. I'll stake my (somewhat bleaked perhaps) reputation and a case of Calsberg that we will not see the demo ready for download before monday.BTW, does anybody know whether we are talking about a PLAYABLE demo? |

Always true, CClark, but hopefully not likely at this point. I would hope that Firaxis would know pretty well at this point whether or not the thing was going to be ready for release. And I would hope the if they knew it wasn't, they'd tell us. It would be cruel to spring that on us a day or two before release. Of course, if something is wrong with the demo, I'd rather them fix it than release it. . .at least, I keep TELLING myself that I would postpone my first look at SMAC because there is a problem. . . |
