It seems that with all the events like the forums going down, this forum popping up, and the approach of the demo, I had forgotten all about the beta testing.
I know that Firaxis or beta testers probably wouldn't tell us specifics about the test, but I'm curious about if the beta is still going on and how long it's taken. We could assume that beta testing would be over with the release of the demo, but at the same time we don't know if the demo will have multiplayer. In other words, beta testers could still be testing multiplayer after the demo is released.
Oh well, just something I was thinking about..

I heard about the beta too.
I was looking for the release date and checked out the.. FAQ I guess..
Only to find there is a public beta underway!
I got an e-mail saying I might get to test it but.. <sigh> of course not.

I got the sense for reading about the beta that it is still underway.
And why not, they will probably use people untill the demo comes out and maybe for a little while after that.

Hmmm ... I wouldn't pay attention to anything on the FAQ ... it's painfully out of date !!!
It still says SMAC will be released in Fall of 1998 !!!
