I can't find others to play with. I often go to alphahq but can't find anybody. That really annoys me!!!!!!!!

I don't think they do a very good job of telling you how to use it. I tried for weeks, and could only get a blank screen, before I read the tip to try logging on from EAs site first. I even mailed EA support three times, and eventually they just said 'we can't duplicate your problem, sorry, can't help.' If there's so much trouble logging on from the firaxis site, they should just take it down and only have it on the EA site. I'm probably more dogged thatn other players though, who just try it once, and if it doesn't work, give up. Now that I'm in there, I also notice almost no one else is.

There used to be a lot more people at AlfNet. I remember when there would be 18+ at a time on weekends.
I think that the lack of support for it is discouraging people from using it. Heck, it's been in "beta" for months now.
And the weekend-long crashes haven't helped much either.
It's sad but true. I hate to say it, but it's just a reflection of the lackluster treatment that Firaxis gave to MP in SMAC. I hope it can be improved. And if not, I _really_ hope they don't give short shrift to MP in CivIII.

I have yet to be able to log on to Alpha HQ.net - I always get a Java script error and a blank screen.
Someone mentioned a way to get to it via EA's site. Could you please post an exact URL to get there (don't just tell me www.ea.com - I went there and didn't see anything about Firaxis).
I'm going to have a few days free in a couple weeks, and would like to do some multi-player SMAC - hopefully I can get it to work!

Well, I thought to be the only one not able to set up properly his IE5 browser, now I see that many experienced the script error/blank page problem.
I tried through EA, and at least I can see the lobby. Unforunately I kept trying but couldn't connect to the server (which?).
That should confirm what said in my company, that the proxy, not using Socks protocol and filtering out dunnawhat, prevents us to use newsgroups, and other amenities, amongst which live online MP...
