To all that were interested in Erewhon and didn't make it, and to everyone who might like to play a PBEM. I have a scenario available, with the following settings: Large anything else average or default. Applicants are asked to make clear their: factions preference order Many challenges based on the same scenario may well be started at the same time (or subsequent as well!). I think the scenario is suitable for play with any number of human players: the participants will indicate what fits best for them. I have to try if the "Eliminate Faction" item in scenario editor menu will allow you to START a PBEM with less than 7 overall faction playing, it could be an idea. MariOne |

MariOne, I knew all along that your devilish good sense would shine through... I can not hope to be competing in so many PBEM games that my mind explodes do to the sheer number of times I call my ISP... happy to play Goob |

MoSe, Sorry I jumped the gun and posted in the other thread. I'll post here in order to be complete. Faction preferences: Open, I will play any. So, feel free to suggest one if it helps to optimize turn around time due to time zone optimization. Time Zone: I live in California, USoA. So, PST. Online/pbem window: 8:00am-midnight PST. I could go a little later if I KNEW a turn was forthcoming. Preferred # of human players: 4, particularly if AI is set to aggressive. Other options: I am generally flexible on the rules and preferences used. My main preference though seems to fly in the face of common practice. That is, I prefer the "Wild and Wooly" approach to in-game communications. I will gladly play with no-contact, no talk, but would much rather prefer to to have diplomacy/trade/threats/etc be available options from the beginning of the game. I think that it adds so much to the game. This really should be a consideration (again, especially if AI is set to aggressive.) Another thing that it will help is in preventing the game degenerating into a Impact Rover rush game, if the builders can use diplomacy and alliances to slowdown the warlike players. JAMiAM |

JAM, if you find 3 others that agree upon WaW communications, then you get it! |

MoSe... NEWHON - Fritz Leiber ? Or is it just a twist on your "nowhere" plot ???

Dull day, today. So far we have Goob's and JAM's subscriptions. So if we get a confirmation from magnus and/or the cousin, we could start a new one swift swiss: Fritz Leiber? which novel? maybe some buried old memory from me? actually it was a twist on the Erewhon "plot" btw, no news from Erewhon, did Chairman Flomeise receive his turn? "...he's a real Erewhon man, living in his Erewhon land, making all his Erewhon plans, for nobody." MoSe, What if they created a CMN game and nobody showed up? I don't *have* to play WaW, just prefer to. So, don't let any perceived pickiness on my part stop you from getting another version of this creation going. One thing though, if Goob's in a game with me he has to be any faction other than the one immediately following mine. He's doing that already in two other games and, frankly, I'm getting paranoid from him always following me. Of course I wouldn't want to restrict Goob's choice of factions. So let him pick first. Maybe I'll follow him around for a change. That is, of course if he isn't already up to his eyebrows in SMAC pbems by now. JAMiAM |

JAM, I guess that rules out us playing a 2 person game... My personal preferences are for an average to dry planet with weak erosion (mountains) and strong/active native life. I want the players trying to kick planets ass but being weak enough that it can kick back pretty hard. I will play any game and just about any faction Goob |

Okay, we are four. The same four as there as before. If you want, I can play some more. Why was the last poet shown the door? Was he so bad, or just a bore? Did he spout til your ears were sore? I guess youe guys evened the score. For they found his body in the moor. You guys kept waiting to hear me say...prostitute, didn't ya? Ya know you did. But I wouldn't do that because I'm a good boy, just like that Bible-toting, two-gun son of a gun, Couslee. Well, if you guys don't mind the same players in a different world (and maybe different factions), I'm game. WaW or not. JAMiAM |

"Boy, he screwed up" they said with glee. He thought there were four (we're only three.) Aredhran's in Erewhon already, you see. A cheater he's not, to play with thee. For he knows that world, land and sea. And, if another is as brave as he, come now forth, say "I am he!" JAMiAM |

not knowing which factions are available, for this game (in order of prefrence): UoP/Gaians/Spartans |

cousLee, You should take the UoP. First come, first served, first choice. That'll leave zeebo his two options available (which will afford you no excuses, zeebo), Goob to pick from 5 remaining, and me, from the last 4. As soon as we know who's on first, we'll lay a sacrificial lamb at the great God MoSe's altar to secure his blessings and be rolling. Sound like a plan? If any objections, please feel free to speak up, and post them here. JAMiAM |

HoHoHo, it's nice to have you little elves to arrange things tidily overnight. Too bad you left out Hendy, who was actually positive in his e-mail: he wanted to play. Let's do it this way: So, while I definitely consider Hendy available for one of these Newhon challenges, I won't actually enlist him in a starting roster until he shows up in _THIS_ thread. Now, let's see how did you dispose the cutlery on the table (hey, we'd need a fifth philosopher! ): 1. (or 4.) Zeebo, Gaia or PK (in THIS order of pick?) I'd need Zeebo to clarify his online/PBEM window, and Sidney is GMT+10, right? (of course, I checked it in the Control Panel ) As soon as I get JAM's pickles, we can start. Although only two of you expressed in favour of Wild and Woolly commlikns, I'll split the tie and grant free and unlimited interfaction interactions. CMN Ace |

Yeh I'll play as the Gaians - I've had more experience with them than any other faction. And yes, I am a newbie to PBEM and fairly new to SMAC but I've been playing Civ-type games for years I should be able to play a bit at work as well as in the evenings so say 9am-12am my time, which (I think) would be 7pm-10am GMT, Z. |

MoSe, if your friend wants to play, I can be convinced to relinquish my seat. After all if I can't play behind JAMheIS why play? Don't get me wrong I am happy to play in front of or behind JAM, I just don't want to be a PBEM hog. Goob |

MoSe, You are truly omniscient! Yes, that's one of my favorite albums. The last "real" Genesis album and one of the five I'd take to the proverbial desert island. You're off by a year though, 1974. Even gods make mistakes, sometimes. I'll pick the Hive. That'll put some seperation between me and Goob. Also, it should allow for some time zone optimization as I could play my turn at work early in the day, cousLee before Goob gets home, then Goob by the time zeebo wakes up. We should be able to knock of a turn a day if nobody slips up. If Goob bows out and someone else steps in, that's fine, but I was trying to give him a chance to beat me. Since he's only in two games with me right now that doesn't make his odds very favorable. I figured if I gave him a chance in three games his odds would be a little better. Like 15% instead of only 10%. JAMiAM |

Back I am, after succedingly bending an unruly AutoCAD 14 to accept custom sizes exceeding the A0 default (it really didn't like NT system drivers for HP DJ 750C+, it absolutely wanted to use its own. I had to teach it some Doctrine: Flexibility). Now, I stated the Forum PBEM rule: thus: 1. Lord Zeebo, Gaia I think I can kick it off right away. I just come from DLing Slartibartfast maps and scenarios, I'll take inspiration from there for my future demiurgical efforts. I had some of your test meals (er... yum! damn diet) come through, but none yet with attachments. I'm at my company's MailMaster's mercy. CMN Ace |

JAMuRtrulyHIGH. I have not lost a PBEM game yet! SO don't go getting your hopes up, OK big guy. It'll be 110 degrees in Phoenix long before you even have a chance of beating me. I will have drunk at least 2 Mocha's before you even get in the vicinity of being able to beat me. I will have successfully clipped my toenails before you come up with a strategy that will make my troops tremble in anything other than barely controlled laughter. Goob |

I think the main issue is whether I would find a challenge in this game. cousLee normally plays some good first few turns, but he is playing UoP and so is naturally handicapped, Then there is the unknown newbie from Australia, now I understand that most Aussie's are warmongering, shrimp on the barbie, veggimite spreading, PBEM Gods. But this one was willing to play the peacekeepers which means he's one of those passive Aussies (Passie Aussies we call em back home) and a Passive Aussie is no better than a New Zealander fer crissakes... And then there is the one and only JAMiAM, a whiskey drinking, No Cal living, AOL using, Hive playing smart arse if there ever was one. I guess I will tremble in my boots for a while, ..... oops I'm done, and that is about how long your forces will last against The Spartan war machine. Goob Zeebo, if your sense of humor is as good as most Australians, who I have had the pleasure of meeting I have no need to write this, but just in case... No offense was intended. |

Goob, Sheeeeeesh! I thought I was long winded. A simple "yes" would have sufficed. We'll see how much hot air that borehole blows when I've overrun those pathetic palisades and poopshacks you have the gall to call bases. I only hope we leave enough splinters and mangled bodies to compost the turnip gardens we'll plant across your former lands. Chairman JAMiAM |
