Hello, I am looking to join a PBeM game. I would start one myself but I have no experience in the matter. I can manage a turn-around of 1 turn per day provided I receive the file sometime during the work day. Then, go home conduct my turn and email away that night or the next day. Prefer to play UoP but would accept any position. Thanks, |

Is there still time/space for one more player? I always choose my faction at random in SP, so I don't care which one I play in MP. My e-mail is [email protected]. Lloyd George |

This is my recomendation for rules for our game. Map: Huge or Large Random Map
I will state my peace on the "Accelerated Start" option. Ya, the AI is not perfect at starting off things...and everyone says that they would have done it diffrently than the computer has set the first three or so. And it is SO much fun starting from scratch. Ok, the other side of the coin is...TIME! I am playing another PBEM game...with just one other human player (AI is controling other factions) The game is fun (goes without saying) but we have been playing for almost a month now, and I am just about 3 turns away from starting my second base. Almost a whole month of back and forth; download, unzip, play my turn (and lets ALL be honest, at least 20 of the first 30 turns in any SMAC game is just moving you scout once, then pressing enter to end your turn)zip up, and then e-mail back out...and hope my opponent will be nice enough to take his one move for his scout and then end turn, save file, rezip and send it back within 24 hours. It just moves too slow. I am also playing an e-mail game that we did use the Accelerated Start...Ok my first 3 bases are not exactly where I would have placecd them (and actually I would only have been able to place two of them because I don't believe in the Flexible Starting Locations option) but it is so nice to actually have about 8 diffrent units to control and cities with populations to run. I think it will be another month and a half to two months before my first e-mail games gets as far as the one we started with the Accelerated option. But nothing is set in stone with me...Let's all just vote on how we want to start. |

You do have another option as far as accelerated start. A number of people have opted to have a neutral SMAC player accelerate their PBEM games by playing the first 20,30,40 or 50 turns in Hot Seat mode. It only takes a human being about an hour or so per each 15-20 turns accelerated. I've also constructed three balanced multiplayer maps with predetermined faction starting points that give each player an equal shot at getting some good resources and special terrain features. They are all standard size maps, but I could easily make a Large map for a game. My web page isn't "glitzy" but it has links to my existing map and scenario files. I forgot to write that I believe accelerated start is better than starting from scratch. It would be *VERY* boring waiting 24 hours And even if accelerated start isn't good Hope u agree ! |

I forgot to mention...I really like blind research--it's one of my favorite new features. I'm wondering if anyone else likes it or if most people can't stand it and turn it off. Either way, blind research definitely affects my gameplay in SP. The mad rush to D:Airpower is harder to pull off. Regardless, no objections here. Start ASAP. Lloyd |

I would be all for an accelerated start - by computer or human, as long as we don't have to start from scratch. I like Blind Research also but the rest of rvgamer's rules sound fine... |

Ok everyone, this is IT!
rvgamer - Hive - [email protected] Animus - UoP - [email protected] Protoss - Morgan - [email protected] Glewscap - Spartans - [email protected] Lloyd - Peacekeepers - [email protected] This is the playing order as well...
BLIND RESEARCCH! I have never played using this option...I look forward to the suggestion (credit to Lloyd.)
A few things for those who have never played by e-mail; at the end of your turn, click on the end turn button then click "save and exit" when the pop up window comes up for the next player. I saved the game as "6pbem" you can save it under whatever name helps you remember which turn it is.
Good luck to all! I will be sending the first turn to Zeebo in just a few mins. RVGamer of the Hive- |

one bit of advise. Someone should have a master copy of the passwords, incase a player vanishes. |
Lloyd |
posted 05-07-99 12:52 AM ET
I propose that rvgamer has a copy of all passwords except animus's, and some non-rvgamer, non-animus player have a copy of animus's password. Although some of the password solutions mentioned in this forum are ingenious, they're also labor-intensive--and I want my 1st turn ASAP. Lloyd |

Guys I made a mistake. I saved the game without ending my turn so I re-played the game and ended my turn this time and then send it again to glen. Sorry for that but this is my first time Anyone who wants proof for this tell me anyway that's all. Glen should have |

So, for future reference: Try not to let Dial-Up Networking hang up while SMAC is running. It froze and I had to start my turn over. There will be an appropriately suspicious message in the savegame. On to the Gaians for turn 2... Lloyd |

For PBeM 6, Questions about reloads and the NastyGram. After completeing my first turn I zipped My question is, will the game report my reload even though it was to the old file, and it was after I sent off my original turn? Second, is this kind of behavior acceptable, or shall I, in the future, just take one and only one look at my turn? Thanks. -david |
