Can't autosave. If you want to save it exits. I cannot believe there is no option here. I say under rules 'iron man' - OFF. Nothing. -- Hugh

saving before end of turn, will cause the multiple re-load edit to appear, when you go to finish your turn. In PBEM/Hotseat you are not suppose to being doing the save-reload cheat. |

Are you the HughtheHand from Warlords? If you are, nice to have you around..SMAC a lot Rasputine P.S. just like couslee posted, Hotseat doesn't allow Save/reload feature with sending an alarm to all further players saying you had reload... |

Yeah- though i'm quitting as its top player this week. But i'd like to play some hotseat games with SMAC. But it crashes more often than i'd like. So i'm a bit new to this.. is there no way to save a bloody game without exiting (or autosave). I mean why have iron man option if you can't get away from it. Please help. Thanks -- Hugh |

you want to play with several factions at the same time, i imagine...no easy way, with Hot seat you have to play it all in row and 'save and exit' when you want to quit playing. If you want to have several saves of the game, it always behaves like an Iron Man...because hotseat is designed for e-mail playing so doesn't allow cheating on that...you play your turn then 'save and exit' and send it to next player... Though Iron Man feature works on Single and Other Multiplayer gamesProbably that didn't help you too much... Rasputine |

You can always get around the iron-man setting, I think. Just copy the save game file to another name...--- wad |

No offense, Wad, but I think you've missed the point here.As a regular Hotseat player I'm constantly vexed by the fact that I can't save without exiting. I've had several sessions wiped out by an ill-timed crash. In the current game I'm playing both human players factions are quite sprawling and take an average of 10-15 minutes per turn each, even with extensive use of queueing, so we're forced to save every other turn or so just to avoid losing an hour of play to a terran.exe exception or the dreaded Blue Screen of Death. Ok, ok, so quitting and then going straight back into the game doesn't take more than a couple of minutes at most on my P-pro 200, but it breaks up the flow of the game. C'mon Firaxis, howsabout an addition in patch (sorry, enhancement) 4.0 that accounts for Hotseat seperately to PBEM and allows saving without exiting? Even a simple notification message like 'This player has saved without exiting x times during their turn' would seriously restrict abuse. |

I have NO IDEA how to set up a hotseat game with SMAC. Can you enlighten me? The manual is of NO help, and the menu never offers me the choice. Help.

1. multiplayer 2. bottom option (5) - hotseat/email 3. add factions 4. playif you don't have patch 3.0 you won't be playing hotseat anytime soon! btw.. remember to save game every so often lest you lose the whole damn thing to crashes. <rolls eyes> -- Hugh |

Hugh, actually, IIRC, Hotseat and PBEM were added in patch 2.0, not 3.0, so most people should be fine.Aredhran PS: You still haven't told me if you were that assassin from the Death Gate Cycle

What's this "crash" thing you guys keep talking about? Is it a special unit ability or a tech or something...(smirk--gloat)?Lloyd |

You know... Crash... as in Program Crash, Blue Screen o'Death... You name it.It is a special ability with zero cost for all units with chassis Windows9x, and to get it you need a special tech, called Micro$oft, with prerequisites Monopoly (B93) and PC "Compatible" (D-38) Aredhran
