I'm up for a PBEM game but I'm looking for a different experience. Here's the particulars: small map The game would start on the first turn so no one needs to play the game to get it started. I don't care how factions are assigned except for one important rule: I cannot be the peacekeepers. |

Sounds great to me. Do you mean we would start in 2101? Those first 20 turns could take a couple weeks email time, instead of one person an hour. Goob |

I would like to join your game. I would like to be the Hive or then Ceo Morgan. |

This would be a real departure for me (normally I'm a "huge map builder type")- sounds really interesting, even though I'd probably get my butt kicked!! Anyway, if you still need players, I'd be interested. I'm in the UK and can play several turns a day. |

ok we could have someone play the first few turns but not too many because that can spoil the game. Maybe fifteen turns or something like that. By then everyone should have built something and gotten a little population growth. The early game can be fun though. My friend just killed a city with scout patrols so he could keep UoP from taking the jungle. |

If there's still place I'd like to try this one too. I agree with glak on a small map choices made in the first turns can be crucial. As it seems many of us will have a handful PBEMs running, starting from scratch would be ok for me. Guees a Bloodfest is not Lal's place, so we can leave it to the 7th player, unless someone likes to take that challenge. MariOne |

Do you guys think we have enough or should we start? Either way is fine with me. Also could someone take the first 15 turns for us? |
Goobmeister |
posted 04-22-99 01:49 PM ET
Lets start, and as a practicing member of the CMN guild I will play either 15 turns or stop when a conflict is possible. Then somebody else can randomly choose which faction I will play, and then we can go from there. I count 5 players which is enough for me, it keeps the email moving faster. Goob |

we should probably get someone else though, otherwise you will know where we are and stuff. I'll post in another thread asking for volunteers. |

Glak, If you want someone "Neutral" to play the game, as to not give the unfair advantage of knowing the map, the other factions' setup and so on to Goob, I'll do it (15 turns on a small map does not sound too difficult, and the week-end is coming - at last ) E-mail me the settings for your map. Do you need a "full-CMN service" or just a map build ? Aredhran |

Never mind sending me the settings, I just realized they were in your first post :O Aredhran |

Oh, and if you want me to do this, I'll need the list of the players and their e-mail addresses. |

But I need(!) the unfair advantages. You see in my neighborhood growing up we never did any terraforming. Well one kid did , but he was from Texas so, well YOu know about people from Texas. My neighborhood never got beyond particle impacters, and only the rich kids had those! I was always stuck pushing around my stupid Laser platform as I wore my handme dowm Synthmetal armor from my brother. Granted this neighborhood suffered from a good deal of Tech Stagnation, but don't you see that is the very reason why I need to have inside advantages. Because I led such a disadvantaged youth. Goob Aredhran, I thought you were going to play. I was looking forward to actually playing against you. (with advantages ofcourse...) |

Aredhran, if you don't have my email addresses already then I am in big trouble because some strange Swiss guy has been emailing my wife to get her to play SMAC with him! I would congratulate any person who could get her to make more than a distracted "hmn That's nice dear" comment on any Computer game. Goob |

Nell PS: I don't tend to spend all that much time online, so from now on, will correspondence be by email?? UK phone charges, moan, whinge, grumble, complain, etc... |

ok ViVicdi you're in, MoSe how about you? We should have this thing going in a day or so I hope. Off to bed for me. Oh and I hope it is ok if my hours are a little flexible. I was only on ten hours today because I had to go somewhere outside of my room. At least the sun was covered up by clouds, I hate that thing. |

ahh ok, well then let's just assume that he's in the game. Please create and do whatever. You don't have to do the MN part of CMNing if you don't want to, I assume that we are all trustworthy individuals and won't cheat. I don't care if factions are random or picked just as long as I don't end up with the immoral Peacekeepers. |

For once I loved having someone assuming on my behalf At first I didn't think it could have become a problem. I'm planning to move, to play at home I'd have to buy a modem, subscribe to the net (and that's feasible), and change all the phone plugs in the walls (I've got the very old type, can't find the adapter's either), and that I didn't want to do, since it's not my place and I hope I won't stay too long. New home is taking some time to free and prepare, I need all my meditation practice (scarce) to endure. At night I dream of SMAC & ADSL (ASDL? well, in doubt, cable). I understand this can become an extra-game incentive to have all go and get rid of me in PBEMs. but then . I could also beg some of my friends for hiring their access, after all they'll have to finally dedicate some value time to their (respective) wives in the weekend. I'm already playing as Lal, Miriam & Yang in different PBEMS. I hope you cand read my PBEM availability in my Forum profile. PBEM Diplomacy: most of us agreed to refrain from communicate until contact is made. Can we use informal (private plain-text e-mail) MariOne |

Greetings loyal Gaians While the violent death of Deirdre was unfortunate I am fully capable of leading our people through the challenges ahead. I plan on instituting several new programs over the coming years. First of all all 4Hers need to raise mindworms. It is our hope that we can use Planet against those that would dispoil her beauty. Strong military factions are on both sides of us and we must be prepared for the inevitable wars. Others are not fit to tend Planet like we are, they will learn the error of their ways. Our beloved Deirdre delved into genetic reasearch but she did not go far enough. Hybrid forests are one thing, but hybrid worms are better. I did not have long to prepare this speech so expect updates in the coming days. |

We seem to have had some slow downs already (I don't quite understand the causes) and email seems inefficient. I propose that we use a threaded forum to keep track of whose turn it is. I am currently using one for a PBEM that I am playing with a few friends. If everyone agrees we could do something similar with our game. The forums are free and it would only take me five minutes to set one up. If you want to see what it would be like you can check it out here: http://disc.server.com/Indices/47133.html Tell me if you guys want to do this. |

I can send the save game file on through them. But for now, not sure what to do...I will keep trying to send the mail through! CEO Richard- |

If MoSe has run into problems, I can fill in for him if needed, untill his service is back up. Delays can happen in email games, we all understand this, and I am sure MoSe would not mind I someone had to play a turn or two. Give it some more time and see if he can get back online. Of course, substitution authorization must come from the CMN of your challange. |

As I mailed you all, MailMaster says it will all be ok. So far I did recive some test mails, non with attachments yet. rvgamer, keep trying! Having a personal self-created (which I shouldn't have been doing ) mailbox at company's server prevented my deprived mind to just imagine I could as well open a free mailbox somewhere in the net. Advices? hotmail? lycos? freewwweb? not usa.net I guess. Tomorrow (CET) I'll take some action in that sense, if forced to. MariOne |

Yahoo is nice. Ihave not had any problems with them (knock on wood). (Usa.net is still better than hotmail.imho) freewwweb is an ISP provided email. (it's not one of those [email protected] addresses) |

USA.NET sucks (but you already knew that, I think I told you ), but Hotmail is worse imho (screw M$) I've tried a bunch of these over time... If you need a list, go to yahoo and search for "free+email" (or maybe e-mail), that will give you a list longer than you may think. Also, check this site out (the URL might be wrong) : http://ftp.sarawak.com.my/longhouse/ayhan it's a list of free e-mail on the net. Some links were dead, but still, it's a good starting point.
