A few of us have banded together to create PBEM "challenges". These are games that are played as a Hotseat game by one player to a predetermined point, under certain guidlines, to create a PBEM game that should be engrossing right from the start. The first one Aredhran's challenge is under way. I have a transcend level challenge basically ready to go, and I am working on a Librarian level challenge. Main differance will be less drones. Once the games are created I will provide the function of moderator and narrator for the game. If you are interested in playing, or being a Creator/Moderator/Narrator (CMN) please post here. A game will be starting before the end of the week. Goob |

Are you planning to be busted soon from Aredhran's one to spare some time for your CMNing? Count me ever in. MariOne |

I'm interested. I'd play any Librarian+ level game as any faction, except the Lord's Believers. As a suggestion, I'd try to arrange players around the clock, i.e., depending on time availability and timezone. I'm currently "hosting" two PBEM games this way with excellent results. My TZ: GMT -3 |

i would play the t(y)ranscent thing. faction doesn't matter as long as people turn in their turns in time ;-) |

MoSe, Morgan Enterprises will be running so smooth that I will have no worries about time spent to CMN. Cous, if there are enough responses to do a lotto then we may be ablt to run one more game. Admittedly I will have a bias towards those who have spent time and energy to start the challenges in the first place. ThrrMezaz, thank you for your interest and your suggestions are good ones. Mose, I believe we can assure that people do not play the same fation that they play in A's Challenge. With the 3 of you, Aredhran, and micje, we are close to having a full game. I would like to have 1 AI. Again for anyone else interested, it will be little trouble to get two more games going so don't be shy about entering your name. Goob Cheaters will be sleeping with the Believers under Coulee's glass bottom boat. |

Hey - GMT-5, zip capable (and preferrable, although everything seems fast with my new* 33.6 capable modem) decent player. Active between the hours 21:00 and 24:00 local (2:00 and 5:00 GMT). Pref is UoP, but who doesn't? Can play all others. * "new" is relative, in my area cable access is the norm, ADSL is old tech, and ISDN is covered in dust. Just love living in "Silicon Valley North". |

Hello, If its still open I'd be happy to take a slot in the game. Haven't done a PBEM version yet, but what the heck. Eastern time zone (US), available early or late evenings. Ian |

OK, by my count there is interest from Aredhran If we get only one game going then there will be a lottery for positions, if we can get two games going with a couple people playing multiple games then everyone plays. More info later. |

I'm in, if you can get another game going. i would prefer Librarian level as I haven't played higher than this yet. I am Eastern Timezone, I haven't played PBEM yet, but I'm up for a challenge. |

Goob, 7 factions, 8 players. I will CMN this one, so that we have 7 factions, 7 players, 1 CMN. Any suggests, Aredhran? Happy to take suggestions from everyone. |

I'd love to play. I've been playing SMAC single player for about four weeks now, and I've been playing a co-op hotseat game with a friend since I got it, so I'm experienced with how hotseat/pbem works. I'm in the UK, and available for a *minimum* of one turn per day. No faction preference, willing to try anything, though I'd prefer around Librarian level. |

I think the factions should be handed out so as to optimize the time zones & most frequent playing times of the players involved. Since the faction order is "locked in", getting the turns rotated around optimally means finding out who plays after whom, picking a random "phase" for faction assignments, then assigning factions sequentially. I live in Texas, that's GMT -6, I think, same as cousLee, and can consistently play between 5:00 and 7:00 GMT. Each of us should put these schedules into our forum profile so any prospective CMN's can schedule faction order. Name, Email, Best Time (GMT) |

bene4- Just a thought... The original Challenge started with 7 humans because I did not really want to have any dumb AI to be bullied in between... But other challenges could be started with fewer players (3 or 4), thus two challenges could start on the same map with two different groups If AI players are included, it might be an idea to give them an edge in, let's say, number of cities and/or military units, to compensate for their stupidity... Not too much new tech, though, they would get probed to death Aredhran PS: I'd gladly participate in your game as well. |

Two challenges on the same map, Great Idea!!! Tournaments! Championships! ViVicdi: If this is feasible in PBEMs, it would add the mystery of not knowing from its color the units you spot in the distance until you contact the faction or gain some classified information. Of course you shouldn't make public which factions are the leaders playing and you should change also all the easiliy recognizable names. MariOne |

Your use of the word "simply" is a bit on the imaginative side. But yeah, it's possible to change faction order. A major pain, but possible. |

Oh yeah, and I would like to sign up for one of your e-mail games. You've got my GMT; just sign me up wherever. Random faction order is probably most fair, but if you're letting players decide their starting faction, I'd like to play the Hive. |

Aredhran or some other nice guy: could you be so kind as to whip up a game for our game? You wouldn't have to do the full CMN duties because we only have five players. If you are interested please post in the Glakian Bloodfest thread. |
