Is it possible to set up a hot seat game that involves both two human controlled factions and the remaining AI factions?I've managed only head-to-head play? MC

MCinBigD,Yes, it is quite possible. After you determine which two factions will be controlled by the breathing players, the others will, by default, be controlled by the AI. I don't understand your question (or is it a statement) of "I've managed only head-to-head play?" JAMiAM |

If you mean, play as an alliance against the computer, then it's really up to you to contact your buddy through game diplomacy to set up a pact, trade technology and so on.If it's something else, as JAM said, please clarify... Aredhran

Thank you fellow SMACentaurians for your responses. I will clarify my question.I recently applied the V3.0 patch to my game and attempted to set up a Hot Seat game for my father and me. We wanted to control separate factions and wanted the computer to control the remaining factions. I set up my faction ... he set up his and we launched into game play. I did a quick check to see if indeed all seven factions were represented. It appeared that we were the only two factions in the game. Perhaps we should have played through a few more turns to see, but the communications menu showed only our two factions (as opposed to a regular game where all are represented). In summary, is a Hot Seat game only a player vs. player style game? or will the computer automatically automate the remaing five factions? Thank you in advance. MC |

MCinBigD - When you start Sp, there are no commlinks shown until you meet the factions, discover their comm in a Unity pod, build the Empath Guild, somebody calls a council or they get your link from somewhere and call you. Does this mean you are the only faction on Planet? Of course not.MP makes all the human controlled factions' commlinks accessible from start unless you have edited the appropriate line in Alpha.txt. I am presuming that checking the commlinks is the way you "did a quick check to see if indeed all seven factions were represented," as I can think of no way to do so short of opening the scenario editor. The point is that all of the factions are there even if you can't see them listed on the commlinks menu. (Except, of course if they have been eradicated in the game.) Does this answer your question? |

Mongoose,Yes it does. Checking commlinks was exactly how I did a quick check. Thank you. MC
