Time to start my own game up and I'm looking for a few good men, or woman. Four to be exact. Here's the 411:Random Large planet 50-70% Ocean coverage Weak Erosive forces Abundant Native lifeforms Average Cloud cover Thinker Difficulty *No* Higher goal (transendance) but you may achieve victory any other way. Do or Die: no reserection Spoils of War: conquer and steal tech Blind Reseach Intence Rivery: the 3 other factions have an itchy trigger finger Time Warp: accelerated start And one more rule: No player can attack any other player until the other 3 AI's are defeated (distroyed or surrendered). If you do attack, the other players must have a permanent vendetta against you. You can interact with the other players any other way you want, be nice and chummy, encroach and pester, even send in your spys as long as they don't beat up other spys. So there you have it. Post back here if you are interested. And I claim the Gaians. Djerrid

Oh, and this is a Play By E-Mail. It will be known as Lost In Space and I will have 2 topics devoted to it in this forum. The first will be "in character" and the second will be to talk about game issues. If you have any questions, let me know. Brandon

Interesting diplomatic restrictions and settings. If you use time warp tho, yo get no guarantee of AI being not too easy to crush, and the good idea is soon over. You could think to use a CMN for a proper scenario. Alas, i'm too busy right now for both CMN or playing, maybe next ones if your idea catches. You know surrendered factins can raise their head again? what then? MoSe |

Canko- I'm guessing that you're new to SMAC PBEM (Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri Play By E-Mail), so I'll tell you how to get in.You just completed the first major step to getting into the game I'm hosting, you replied. First you have to make sure you have the Alpha Centauri game (of course) and the latest patch (if you don't know what that is or where to get it, write back and I'll direct you to the right place). Next you have to pick a faction to play. I've already taken the Gaians so you will have to pick on of the other factions. Write back and let me know witch you prefer. Then, when we have enough people to play, I'll start the game up and e-mail the game file to the person whose faction has the next turn. And they in turn will complete their turn and send it on to the next person and so on until it gets to you. Once you get the file, move it to Alpha Centauri/save folder. Then get into the game and go into Multiplayer, then Hot Seat/Play by Mail, then Load Game. This will show all of the saved files you have. Go to the file you downloaded from the email and play it. That's the basics. I'll get into a little more detail once we round everyone up. Write back if you have any questions. MoSe- As long as the three CMNs are all serendered at one point, everyone has free reign to go at each others throats. Even if the other factions get a second wind, the gloves stay off. I decided to do this so newbies could get the hang of PBEM before they get demolished. Also to let players have fun interacting without the fear of being stabed in the back early in the game. I'm in. I'll take the UoP. BTW, Djerrid, could you explain the meaning of "CMN". I'm pretty much an MP newbie right now...LoD |

Even if I saw you around a bit, I see no smiley, so here you get it LoD. I doubt that we and Djerrid used the same acception for the acronym. In PBEM challenges, it stands for: Creator Moderator Narrator It raised from the need of: -preparing an already enough developed starting point for a PBEM, not trusting the choices or the balance that comes with Time Warp -having a referee who could sort out any dispute which would raise about rules & cheating, and who could help in making the turns run smoothly around, monitoring the game -organize and report stories about the ongoing game, spreading the interest among the public without letting any relevant detail about the challenge get known by who shouldn't. The third part is rather left to the fantasy of the players themselves, and in many challenges is a bit neglected (and I'm the worst of the CMNs in this), tho sometimes we read some fulgid example of creativity. BTW, I saw that you both registered in ACOL: why don' you go on and report of this game there too? SMAC On... as tfs99 says. |

*** NEWSFLASH ***I've decided to change the format of the game a little bit. I'm not going to put any computer factions in it. There will just be the four player factions. Also I'm not going to use the time warp. We'll start from the very beginning. There will still be a "buffer zone" before players can attack other players. There won't be any fighting until the secret project "Empath Guild" is found. Thanks, Djerrid |

Thanks MoSe. I stay in the Game Forum most of the time, with scarce escapades to the MP or Off-Topic Forums, so, although (IMHO) I'm not new to SMAC, I have no experience in MP whatsoever.Djerrid: And you have the Gaians... Race ya! LoD |
