Hey all,I have a question about trading in multiplayer games, particularly trading technologies. In the single player games, the computer is kindof omnicient on this point, and always offers you something you don't have and asking for technologies that it knows you have. How does this work with mutiple humans? Is there any assistance when it comes to offering technologies or asking for technologies to players, or is it a guessing game? If its a guessing game I could see things going back and forth for a while searching for techs that you don't have but the other guy does... Since I'm in my first PBeM here I thought I'd ask before I mucked it up (when the opportunity arises). Thanks. Sand

Sand, It's not a guessing game. Click on the commlink for the other faction, a diplomatic dialogue box will pop up. (a little different from the SP version) Click on share tech. A list pops up with all of your techs. Any one that the other faction has will be asterisked with 'Already has'. Simply select what you want to offer. (multiple offers need multiple clicks) When you're done, click 'end transmission'. Only click 'accept' if you are completely happy with the offers on BOTH sides. If you click 'accept' before the other faction has put anything on the table, they can click 'accept' in their turn and accept your gift . Now, if you really trust that person, and/or you have conducted the basic negotiation outside the game framework, you can cut the turn around time by half a cycle by accepting an open offer. ( the trade doesn't take effect until both sides have accepted it) Remember though, let me reiterate, again, this takes much trust! Hope this helps. The game indicates techs that you have that the other player does not. That's at least a start. If you trust the other player with the info, you can just click Offer All Tech (but DON'T click ACCEPT) to let them have a gander at what you have to offer. Then they can offer one of their own or do the offer all thing as well. Eventually you can come to a deal in two or three turns. Talking by e-mail works too! SMAC n ... Ted S. |

Hey 'goose! You beat me by two minutes! Be of good cheer about PBEM. I'll be starting some games in the near future once Lady Nell gets back from her Florida vacation and I can give her back the PBEMs I'm subbing in. Keep your eye peeled on ACOL and be sure to set the profile option there to be notified of new games. SMAC n ... Ted S. |

Also, when you are thinking, why did I not get my pact brother's map, it is because you need to select it as a trade item in the same window you use to trade tech. It is at the very bottom. |
