I have an idea for a level-start scenario for PBEM play. All players would have the exact same setup parameters. Give 'em "player's choice" of a couple of tech to start with, maybe, to add some spice. That way the PLAYER's personailty and idiosyncracies would be developed, rather than Miriam's slow tech, or Morgan's $$, or whatever.. Whaddya think? btw: If you do a Scenario PBEM, what files have to be on all the players machines? Does anybody know?

That would be worth trying. That way the factions would reflect the personality of their leader, a true multi-human game |

Well, if you succeed in this...I proposed it a while ago, and got as a reply "What, all PLAIN VANILLA factions???.......". And when I answered "hey I just said I'd like to try it once!", the echo was lost in the fungus.... Of course I assume you're speaking of factions mods, so, no SocialEngineering + or -, no free tech (or at least you grant x free tech to be chosen by each player at the start, I'd suggest NO Social Psych in this case to keep the race open), no Faction-free facilities in all bases, no other specials. You should then pick up Goob's idea of using a TerraForm points budget from which each player tells what he prefers to do, to grant starting balance and individual development according to personality. yea, MoSe got scorched a while back. I threw a soda on him, but he was still smoldering like a MW. I don't know, but each player might have to have altered .txt file for that to work. setting it up would not be too hard

If Druid or somebody will setup this kind of game I would be most happy to take part in it. |

Well, I'm trying to chew thru the text files and make a 'nothing' faction... at least there's the "let player choose x number of tech at start" option.I dont think you can use an alternate faction text file setup without a scenario to go with it.. Unless you want to replace all the original text files, that is. Have you noticed how wonderful the Scenario Editor is?... ~not~

Mario, what you forget is that since it was your idea we were obliged to shoot it down regardless of what it merits may or maynot have been.... Druid from what I understand you do need to have ascenario folder that has the copy of ALpaha.txt and the factions text files, as well as the save file. How do you plan to handle the Social Engineering bonuses/penalties? What if each player were to submit a faction file to a moderator/Creator. This individual then made modifications/suggestions to the file/player for game balancing purposes. Once all the factions were set the the scenario folder and files were zipped up and mailed to each of the players and the game commences? Or there is the idea of players spending points toward selections and then the Creator actually makes all the factions based on the points spent by players. Just ideas, I still don't like the "vanilla" idea though. Goob |
