When playing a strategy game that compresses centuries into hours, it's easy to loose track of the little people. Whilist playing my last game I wondered just what the daily routine was for the average colonist for a given faction. As a point of reference I thought of various films and books, most of which seemed fairly obvious. So as a springboard for future projects what books, movies TV shows et al would you consider representitive of a given faction? Here's a couple to start (as I said obvious)

Hive: 1984 Extructiatingly obvious, but 1984 is an example of the police state as it's absolute worst. As I can figure though, Shang draws more from Eastern philosophy rather than marxism and nationalism.

University: Brave New World. Again, obvious choice for a scientific society. Might be more Thought Control than anything else.

Morgans: Any cyberpunk-type megacorp, though OCP from Robocop immediatly springs to mind. Cutthroat capitalism at it's finest.

Believers: Handmaid's Tale without the feminist overtones?

Peacekeepers: (kick me for even suggesting this) the Federation from star trek?

Spartans: Hell I don't know. How about the post apacalyptic Fascist American state, cliche as it is. Talk alot about freedom in a genral sense but more concerned with stability.

and Gians: I really don't know about these guys. Woodstock: the movie?(kidding)

Hive. . .maybe the book We. I think the idea of Punishment Spheres came from that book. . when The Benefactor electrifies each revoluntary in aself-contained chamber to rehabiliate them.
