Umm...so now I've donwloaded Paint Shop Pro 5.03, and I still can't do it! I still have a problem with the transparency (it shows as a light blue). If anyone can make a blank (except the seperating lines) [faction].pcx and [faction3].pcx file and send it to me at [email protected] or [email protected], I would be very grateful (or if anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong).

ACEdit 2.0 has a blank default.pcx file (the bases are the UN's though).
I have the same problem with the light blue background (around the bases though I only played a couple of turns to see if it worked). I'm trying to figure it out and I'll let you know if I have any success.

akathisia-doesn't know what he's getting himself into

I know how to sort out the backgrounds on bases problem, for some reason, the game doesn't like the blank files give nwith ACEdit. Anyway, just copy the bases from another faction file into your own and the problem goes away. This is easily done in PSP, but I don't know how easy it is with other programs.

Thanks. I will try that.

akathisia-I can't think of anything to put here right now

umm...but I want to make my own bases.
Are u saying that if I take one of the 7 faction files that came with SMAC, I should be able to edit them?

hmmm...that bit with the original faction files didn't work...
so it looks like there is no way out, unless someone could please email me blank [faction].pcx and [faction3].pcx (just with the dividing lines) at [email protected] or [email protected]?

Thanks in advance,
MajiK6pt5

Transparency... Yes. Yes.

Your problem is that when you try to play with an faction graphic file with edited base graphics, they have blobs of blue around them, right?

This is because the game thinks that backround colour that you are using is light blue, it is not the right backround color that shows as transparent.
The right transparent backround color is: R255 G0 B255 I255, And it is wery important that the color palette index number of that colour is 255. Otherwise you end with that light blue again.
Your current backround color is probably
R255 G0 B255 I208. So it is the index number that matters.

Thanks a lot, Zenk_Bongwater. I tried it, but it didn't work, I think I did something wrong. So I set the index color of 208 to the same thing as 255 (that purple color), right? Then which color do I paint with, 208 or 255?

Zenk: THANKS big time. I finally got the transparency to work correctly with PSP and now my bases appear normal.

If only I knew how to draw...

MajiK: Write down the pink(transparent) RBG values and the I255 RBG values. Then just edit the values by typing one set into the others fields and vice versa. I255 will now have pink's values and the I### will have the purply color.
Make sure you reset transparency to the pink color again.
