I've recently been working on a series of factions based on races and groups from Star Trek and am looking for feedback from other players. It will be some time before they are all complete but my Ferengi factions is ready now except for some fine tuning in logos. I also have a complete copy of Valtarien of Borg's Borg faction which I am hoping to include in my pack. Does anyone have any opinions?

Ok, here are the ferengi stats; Free Tech : Industrial Base +3 Economy -2 Growth +1 Police -2 Planet Free Energy Bank at each colony 100 extra credits Free prototypes Double council Votes Needs Hab complex to go beyond 4 I think this may be a bit leniant with the +3 Economy and all the other good stuff, but I was trying to replicate the Ferengi way of life. The Borg fac pack can be found at The Arrival (http://ac.strategy-gaming.com/) I think so you can get the info on that one from there as it isn't actually mine. I also need some ideas for the other factions which will be, the Federation, Cardassians, Bajoran, Klingon and Vulcan, although I've already found another Federation pack also at The Arrival. If anyone has a picture of the Klingon homeworld or the Great Hall could I get a copy as I can't seem to find one. |

Too good. +1 Ecomony max. You probably should drop the Double Counsel Votes as well. Good try though. |

Koshko's right: the Ferengi aren't popular in councils. In fact, with their repeated cheating of their customers, they probably have to constantly seek new markets just to maintain current profit levels. The exception is in gambling, where the mugs never seem to learn. But there's only so much room for businesses in gambling, before competition becomes truly cut-throat. How you'd use SMAC to model these trends in the history of the Ferengi faction is a challenging exercise.

I've been doing some more work on the faction since I looked at it and realised how powerful they actually were. I've dropped the double council votes and free prototypes and changed a few other bits. I'll let you know the results when I've had more of a chance to test them. Thanks for your input, and it's still welcome! |

I could sit here and tell you all about the faction and the author's (Valterian of Borg) reasoning, or I could tell you where to find the whole thing, including .pcx's and an mp3. The site you want is at http://ac.strategy-gaming.com/ and you'll find this, and other factions in the files section. |

About the double counsel votes thing, the ferengi would be able to use their monetary influence to get it. |

That was my original thinking, but I could use that idea for a number of things so I decided to cut down on the bonuses, like double votes and free prototypes, because they were getting too powerful. I've now almost finished the first versions of all my Star Trek factions and am going to begin testing them soon. I'll let you know waht they are like and will hopefully get them posted somewhere. |

Thanx for the advice, Big Mad Drongo. The Borg is OK, but I'll change it. How to make your own probes 100% efficent? (you know, Borg assimilates you)oki -Reistance is futile- |
